It’s ironic, that a news reporter is so uninformed. My wife, however, isupset at me almost on a daily basis because of my ignorance of a lot of popular celebrities or current events. I respond, “Let Leo DiCaprio dosomething in the River Parishes and I may pay attention to him.”The latest thing to upset her was the story of that Windjammer cruise ship which was lost during Hurricane Mitch. I flat-out didn’t know about itat all until this past Sunday. I try and explain that I only grab a CNN half-hour news report once a day and if it’s not mentioned there, odds are, I’ll never hear about it.

She reads “People” every week like clockwork and, although she sees no more movies than I do (and we see pretty few), she’s much more up as to recording artists than I. Recently, we were watching a VH-1 documentaryon Madonna and my wife was astounded to learn I hadn’t heard about that singer’s last two albums. I had heard about her movie roles and some ofher public scandals and such but not of her latest music.

She’s also always amazed that I usually cannot recognize a band on the radio. Most of the time, I’ve never heard of them to know who they are, never mind recognizing them.

And I’ve yet to see “Titanic.” What’s to see? I know how it ends…
