Destrehan runs by Lions, 24-0

DESTREHAN – The bi-district playoffs began for Destrehan Friday night as the Wildcats hosted the Lafayette Lions at Wildcat Stadium.

In a game dominated by Destrehan and its running game, the Wildcats advanced by defeating the Lions, 24-0. The Wildcats, 7-2, will travel toMetairie next week to face Archbishop Rummel in the regional playoffs.

Lafayette finished its season at 7-4.

The strength of Destrehan’s offense came behind Traun Smith as he carried 11 times for 184 yards and two touchdowns. Smith also caughttwo passes for 52 yards and a touchdown.

Lafayette had the first chance to score, using 14 plays on its first possession to drive to the 7-yard line. But Steve Wilson missed a 23-yardfield goal with 5:19 left in first quarter.

Smith first score was a 67-yard run. Ricky Rodriguez’s extra point wasmissed, making the score 6-0.
