ST. JAMES – It didn’t take the St. James Wildcats long Friday to lay claimto their sixth straight district championship. They jumped hard andquickly on the Donaldsonville Tigers, and in the end had a 34-8 District 10-3A victory in the final regular season game.

It’s the sixth straight district championship for the 9-1 Wildcats, ranked third this week in Class 3A. Donaldsonville fell to 2-8 overall and 0-4 indistrict play.

St. James jumped to a 21-0 first quarter lead, then led 34-0 at the end ofthe first half. Donaldsonville got its touchdown in the fourth quarter.Roy Weber scored St. James’ first touchdown on a 14-yard pass fromCorey Webster. Alvin Bartholemew added the point after to give theWildcats a 7-0 lead.

Bartholemew’s next point after kick made it a 14-0 game after Chad Jasmin carried the football in from the 3.

Before the first quarter was over Webster scored on a 1-yard run, and Bartholemew again was successful on the PAT to make it a 21-0 game.

St. James’ first score of the second quarter came on a 22-yard pass fromWebster to Justin Aubert – the point after by Bartholemew made it 28-0, and the team’s final score of the quarter came on a 19-yard run by Jasmin.

The point after attempt this time failed.

Donaldsonville’s lone touchdown came on a 4-yard run by Terrence Brown.

The two-point conversion – a pass from Brown to Matt Darville – was good.

Donaldsonville’s Darville led all rushers in the game with 69 yards on 10 carries. St. James’ Jasmin rushed seven times for 62 yards, and BrianBatiste added 34 yards on seven carries.

St. James had 12 first downs in the game to Donaldsonville’s 8. TheWildcats gained 224 yards in total offense, while the St. James defenseheld Donaldsonville to just 59 yards total offense.

St. James will begin the playoffs next Friday at home against a wildcardselection.

Lutcher 16, Plaquemine 0 LUTCHER – The Lutcher Bulldogs scored one touchdown in the first half then added 10 points in the fourth quarter Friday to nail down second place in District 10-3A.

The Bulldogs beat Plaquemine, 16-0, in the final regular season game and finished the regular season with an 8-2 overall record and a 3-1 district mark.

Plaquemine’s season ended at 5-5 overall and 1-3 in league play.

Lutcher’s first touchdown came with 10:11 left in the second quarter when Damian Ursin recovered a fumble in the end zone. The kick failed,giving the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead.

That lead stood until the fourth quarter. With 11:05 remaining in the gameLane Zimmer kicked a 28-yard field goal. Then, with 5:46 left, KennethJohnson scored on a 92-yard pass from T.R. Ricks. Zimmer’s kick was good,making the final margin 16-0.

Lutcher, which will host the second-place team from District 8-3A next Friday in the opening round of the playoffs, netted 79 yards on the ground and 266 through the air for 345 total offensive yards. Plaquemine had 174yards of total offense in the game.

West St. John 29,Ellender 8

EDGARD – West St. John prepped for the state playoffs with a 29-8 victoryover Ellender Friday night in a non-district game at West St. John Stadium.West St. John completed the regular season with a 7-3 overall record,finishing second in District 9-2A. The Rams will host Christian Life nextFriday in the bi-district playoffs. Ellender finished at 0-10.Carl Gauthier completed 9-of-13 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns as the Rams rolled up 314 yards in total offense. Jamar Baileycarried eight times for 65 yards while Dehaven Duronslet had 10 carries for 30 yards as the Rams gained 136 yards on the ground. Donriel Louiswas the leading receiver with three catches for 61 yards and a score.

West St. John struck first in the first quarter as Bailey scored on a 42-yard run. Brian Lumar added the extra point to make it 7-0. Duronsletfollowed with a 1-yard run to make it 13-0 at the end of the first quarter.

West St. John would add to that lead in the second quarter on an 8-yardpass from Gauthier to Duronslet. Gauthier would then find Louis for thetwo-point conversion to make it 21-0 at the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, Ellender got on the scoreboard on an 80- yard run by Kevin Johnson. Johnson then added the two-point conversion tocut the deficit to 21-8. He would finish the night with 151 yards on 18carries.

West St. John would answer with a 49-yard scoring strike from Gauthierto Louis. Duronslet would tack on the two-point conversion to increase thelead back to 29-8.

Destrehan 16, H.L. Bourgeois 0

TERREBONNE – Destrehan clinched its third straight district title with a 16-0 victory at H.L. Bourgeois Friday night.Destrehan, 7-2 overall and 6-1 in District 6-5A, will host a wildcard team Friday night in the bi-district playoffs. Bourgeois completed itsseason at 6-4 overall and 3-4 in district play.

Terrebonne 36, Hahnville 14

BOUTTE – Hahnville took it hard on the chin Friday with a 36-14 loss to Terrebonne Friday.

Leading Hahnville rusher was Charles Taylor with 24 carries for 130 yards. Leading Terrebonne rusher was Claude Johnson with 22 carries for230 yards and two touchdowns.

Scoring was spread out until the fourth quarter, when Terrebonne began piling on the points to wrap the game. The visitors began with a 30-yardtouchdown run by Johnson with 8:35 in the first quarter. The PAT kick byCraig Giroir was good for the 7-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Alton Diggs completed to Will Henry with an 8-yard TD pass with 21 seconds left in the half. Giroir’s PAT was good for the14-0 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Hahnville tried a comeback, as Dawan Landry completed a 30-yard TD pass to Carl Raymond. Kerry Fonseca’s PAT kickwas good and the Tigers trailed by only 14-7. However, with eight secondsremaining in the period, Giroir’s field goal gave Terrebonne a 17-7 edge.

Then came the fourth quarter.

Hahnville tried to continue their threat, with a Landry-to-Mark Young TD pass from 26 yards and 9:33 left on the clock. Fonseca nailed the PAT andHHS trailed 17-14.

Sixteen seconds later, Johnson slammed down a 96-yard touchdown run off the kickoff. Despite the failed PAT kick, the 23-14 edge gaveTerrebonne the jump-start which carried them through the rest of the game.

Johnson again scored, this time on a 76-yard run, with 3:55 remaining.

Giroir pumped in the PAT and Terrebonne led 30-14. Finally, with 2:15 leftin the game, Quincy Celestine scored for Terrebonne from five yards out for the final score of 36-14.

Hahnville led 12-11 on first downs. Rushing, though was another story.While Hahnville carried 39 times for 126 yards, Terrebonne carried 32 times for 279 yards.

In passing, Hahnville again led, and completed seven of 15 attempts for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Terrebonne completed four of 13 attemptsfor only 28 yards.
