DESTREHAN – Hahnville overcame early serving problems to capture a playoff berth with a 15-13, 11-15, 15-8 victory over Destrehan in the District 8-I second place playoff Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Tigers, 9-17 overall, will play the champion of District 10-I in the bi-district playoffs at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the Pontchartrain Center inKenner. It was the second straight season that the Lady Tigers defeatedtheir cross parish rivals for second place in the district. Destrehanfinished its season at 8-18 overall.

After the teams split the first two games, Hahnville jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third game. Colleen Lockhart had a spike hit the top of the netand fall in and Liz Landry added another spike during the run.

Hahnville coach Mendi LeBoeuf called a timeout after Destrehan pulled to within 4-2 as the Lady Tigers let the ball drop in after a dig by Keanna Bethencourt. The timeout revitalized the Lady Tigers who pulled out to a10-2 advantage.

An ace by Jackie Whitmer and a kill by Lockhart gave the Lady Tigers a 5-2 lead on their next serve. After a service break, Fallon Cancienne deliveredan ace and Lockhart followed with a cross court kill to give the Lady Tigers the lead.

Susan Baudier broke the Hahnville serve with a dink and the Lady Cats rallied behind four Lady Tiger errors and an ace by Erica Bierman to close to with 10-7. Another Hahnville error two serves later made it 11-8.But Hahnville was able to hold off the rally by breaking four straight serves. A kill by Cancienne and two Dest-rehan errors brought the LadyTigers to match point. Lockhart got the winner with a spike that wasdeflected out of bounds.

LeBoeuf said she told her team during the timeout with the score 4-2 that it had worked too hard to beat themselves at that point.

“I told them to pick it up and help each other,” LeBoeuf said. “I wantedevery player involved in every play.

Both teams had trouble with their serves in the first game as Hahnville had eight service errors and Destrehan had six. The Lady Cats tookadvantage of the errors to take a 5-1 lead on two kills by Angele Chauvin and an ace by Angela Garrett.

Hahnville pulled to within 5-4 on a dink by Landry and a kill by Whitmer.

Destrehan ans-wered to increase the lead back to four on a spike by Allison Bourgeois and three Lady Tiger errors.

Hahnville rallied three serves later on a kill by Lockhart and consecutive aces by Cancienne to take its first lead at 9-8. Aces by Landry and LaToyaWoods made it 11-9 before Destrehan came back to tie the score on back to back aces by Chauvin.

After two errors by Destrehan made it 13-11, the Lady Cats once again tied the score on consecutive aces by Kim Bierman. But a spike by Landrybroke the Lady Cats serve and Hahnville followed on its next serve with an error by Destrehan and an ace by Bethencourt.

Destrehan again jumped ahead early in the second game, taking a 5-4 lead on a kill by Baudier and four Hahnville errors. Hahnville again bouncedback, surging to an 8-5 lead on aces by Lockhart, Woods and Whit-mer.

The lead continued to seesaw as Ashley Nelson had a dink and Landry and Baudier traded kills. The Lady Cats then pulled away to a 14-10 lead on anace by Kim Bierman and three Hahnville errors. Landry broke the servewith a kill and then delivered an ace to cut the deficit to three. But EricaBierman got the serve back for the Lady Cats with a dig off the net and a Hahnville error tied the match at one game apiece.

Destrehan coach Calvin Ike said it was serving that made the difference in the game. Both teams had 11 serving errors in the match but only three ofHahnville’s came in the final two games.

“They had a tough time serving and we had a worse time serving,” Ike said.

“That played a major part in the game.”
