DEAR EDITOR: I am rather concerned about the devotion of so much time and energy in planning a racetrack near the Reserve airport. I would wish that the ParishCouncil divert this time and energy to an Interstate 10 exit route near the Reserve airport. The Reserve community has experienced chemical spillson U.S. Highway 61 and chemical leaks have caused the evacuation andclosing of private and public schools in the Reserve area. I would think anexit route for 7,000 people is a greater concern.

I have yet to see how a racetrack would provide the St. John the BaptistParish community and Reserve an economic windfall. Will we devoteeconomic development money into this project? Is this part of our parish’s recreational development? If so, we missed an age group! What social impact will an racetrack have on the Reserve community? Have studies been made on this project? If so, please provide the Reserve community a report. Will the Parish Council involve the Reservecommunity in this decision? I certainly hope the Parish Council and Mr. Arnold Labat, parish president, will provide the Reserve community answers.
