RESERVE – The Riverside Rebels can wrap up sole possession of first place in District 9-2A and an undefeated regular season with a victory at home against St. Martin’s Friday night at Rebel Stadium.The Rebels have already wrapped up the first seed in the district by virtual of their win over second place West St. John last month. Riversidecomes into the game with a 9-0 record overall and a 3-0 mark in District 9-2A.

St. Martin’s, on the other hand, is looking for its first district win of theseason after three losses. The Saints fell to 1-8 overall with a 38-0 lossat home against St. Charles Catholic Friday night. St. Martin’s only victorycame against Ecole Classique in the second week of the season.

Riverside is coming off a 35-0 non-district victory at home against L.B.Landry last Friday. The Rebels rolled up 297 yards in total offense whileholding Landry to 127 yards.

In the game, Casey Remondet rushed 17 times for 149 yards and two touchdowns. It was the third straight game and the seventh time thisseason that Remondet has gone over the century mark running the ball.

For the season, he has carried 136 times for 1,027 and 14 touchdowns. Hehas also caught 10 passes for 192 yards and two scores. Remondet leadsthe team and is second in the River Parishes with 16 touchdowns overall.

The wing-T formation has also allowed the Rebels to spread the ball around to their other backs. Brandon Delaneuville gained 33 yards and atouchdown against Landry, given him 421 yards and four touchdowns on 55 attempts in 1998. Britt Waguespack also scored for the Rebels and issecond on the team with nine touchdowns.

Joey Poirrier completed 7 of his 13 passes for 122 yards against the Buccaneers. Through nine games, the senior quarterback has completed 61of his 114 passes (54 percent) for 1,007 yards and seven touchdowns.

With Remondet and Poirrier, the Rebels have a 1,000-yard rusher and a 1,000-yard passer for the first time since 1994 when Jimmy Dottolo and Ryan Lousteau accomplished the feat.

Senior wide receiver Keith Leblanc had a big game for the Rebels Friday night, catching five passes for 101 yards. It was the second time thisseason he has gone over 100 yards, following a six-catch, 111-yard effort against Parkview in Week Five.

For the season, LeBlanc has caught 29 passes for 537 yards (18.6 yardsper catch) and three touchdowns. What does not show up in the stats arethe times he has opened up another receiver or the running game with key blocks and his use as a decoy.

The Rebels defense pitched its first shutout of the year, holding the Buccaneers to 30 yards passing and eight first downs. Riversideintercepted three passes and recovered two fumbles. On the season, theRebels have allowed a district-low 103 points (11.4 per game).St. Martin’s, on the other hand, has scored a district-low 73 points (8.1points per game). The Saints were held to 61 yards and three first downsby the Comets Friday night. Danny Trahant, who had over 500 yards rushingheading into the game, was held to 59 yards.

St. Martin’s defensive woes continued against the Comets as the Saintsallowed 447 total yards and 24 first downs. The Comets gained 265 yardson the ground and 182 yards passing. For the season, St. Martin’s hasallowed 258 points, the most for a team contending for district honors.

That defense is led by defensive end Alan Watts, linebackers Nick Hintz and Peter Castaing and defensive back Nathaniel Rogers.

Riverside rolled to a 35-6 victory over the Saints a year ago. TravisBourgeois had 166 yards rushing and the Rebels defense held the Saints to 118 total yards.
