St. Charles Catholic Quarterback Club meetings will be held everyTuesday night in the school cafeteria from now through the end of the season.

The Riverside Academy Quarterback Club will hold meetings every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Lee Brecheen, editor for Louisiana Football Magazine will be the guest speaker at the weekly Lutcher Quarterback Club meeting Tuesday night. Asusual, chicken and dirty rice will be served beginning at 7:30 p.m. with theguest speaker following. Coach Tim Detillier will wrap up the meetingwith his comments on last week’s game and the Bulldogs’ upcoming opponent.

The St. Charles Catholic Athletic Association is holding a monthly$1,000 raffle. Only 100 tickets will be sold each month at a cost of $20per ticket. St. Charles Catholic High School is hosting the Shootout at SCC, ashooting clinic for boys and girls featuring the nation’s premier shooting coach, “The Shot Doctor” Ace Hoffstein, November 7.

Two sessions will be held. Session I is from 9-11 a.m. Session II is from1-3 p.m. The costs for both sessions is $40 and includes a camp T-shirt.The clinic is open to all players ages 10-18. Enrollment is limited.Deadline for registration is Nov. 1.Hoffstein has worked with basketball players at all levels – high school, college and the pros. He has been the personal shooting coach for NBAstars Jason Kidd, Grant Hill and Juwan Howard.

The clinic will also present Melani Lowman with her Maximum Effort Learning Sports Program to enhance athletes speed, agility, quickness, balance, coordination and explosiveness on the court.

North Oaks Health System in Hammond will host the Ninth Annual Ponchatoula-Middendorf’s Swamp Romp, a 10-mile social walk/run to promote wellness, Saturday.

The Swamp Romp is open to everyone and features a flat, straight route from Ponchatoula, along Old U.S. Highway 51, to Middendorf’s Restaurant inManchac. Walkers will begin at 7:30 a.m. followed by runners at 8:30 a.m.Preregistration is $15. Long-sleeved T-shirts are available for $12. Allproceeds will be donated to the United Way Serving Tangipahoa Parish.

An official time clock will be used to determine awards for the male and female runners with the best times. Prizes also will be awarded to theoldest and youngest participants, as well as the top three costumes in an optional Halloween costume contest. At the finish line, runners andwalkers will be served Middendorf’s fried catfish dinners and entertained with live music.

The Louisiana Soccer Association, in conjunction with the South Tangi Youth Soccer Association, will host the fourth annual State Coaching Symposium Nov. 6 and 7 from 7-11 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 5:30p.m. on Saturday at the Holiday Inn and S.T.Y.S.A. Fields in Hammond.The symposium is open to all coaches and is endorsed by the Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association and U.S. Soccer. The cost is $40which includes a reception on Friday evening.

The theme of the symposium is 4 versus 4 for under 6 to under 23 teams.

The guest clinicians are Bill Buren, the Director of Coaching for the Brevard Soccer Club; and Virgil Stringfield, the Director of Coaching for the Arkansas State Soccer Association. Both are U.S. Soccer National Staffcoaches and creators of the National Youth License.

Southeastern Louisiana University’s 6th annual golf scramble fundraiser has been set for Friday, November 6 at Santa Maria Country Club in Baton Rouge.

The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The field islimited to 25 foursomes and is open to men and women.

The entry fee is $65 per person which includes a cart, refreshments, a gift package, dinner following the tournament and individual prizes for closest to the hole and longest drive. All procceds from the tournament willbenefit SLU athletics.

The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring hunter safetyclasses that are free of charge Nov. 17-19 and 21..All classes will be held at the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office DivisionHeadquarters in LaPlace. St. Charles Catholic Head Baseball Coach Frank Monica is holdingtwo baseball camps at the school over the Christmas holidays. A camp forpitchers and catchers will be held Dec. 21 and 22 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.The costs for the camp is $60.

A camp for hitters will be held Dec. 28-30 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The costis $90.

Season ticket packages for the 1998-99 Nicholls State University home basketball games are now available from the athletic ticket office.

Four different plans are available and include 13 men’s and 13 women’s home contests.

Reserved seats behind the player’s bench are $98, while Upper Chairback or Lower General Admission are $68 apiece and Upper General Admission is priced at $53. Season parking privileges are also available for $5.The men’s exhibition season begins Nov. 8 against VASDA, while thewomen have a Nov. 11 preseason affair with the Houston Jaguars. Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motor vehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St.

Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free.

The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year- round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally- retarded children and adults in Louisiana.

Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction asthe fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
