A strike can be an ugly thing. Our experience with the Bayou Steel strikeshowed us families in despair, communities split and work groups sundered. Friendships were lost, families were split, and instances ofviolence marred the efforts for a quick, peaceful settlement.

It is our sincere hope the Kaiser walkout ends amicably and soon. Thereare too many good people in the River Parishes community being hurt by this walkout, and we do not want to see a rerun of the Bayou Steel situation, which went on far too long.

The Kaiser walkout hasn’t gone on long, yet. Community support seemsstrong for the strikers, and families have not yet felt the pinch some Bayou Steel families suffered. It hasn’t gotten ugly yet. Let’s keep it thatway and settle this.
