Ursin leads Bulldogs to win against Cards

LUTCHER – Damian Ursin rushed for over 160 yards and scored two touchdowns to help Lutcher defeat E.D. White, 27-7, in District 10-3Aaction Friday night.

The 14th-ranked Bulldogs bounced back from a loss to St. James last weekto improve to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in district play. E.D. White, ranked 13thin Class 3A heading into the game, fell to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in District 10-3A.

Ursin opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 2-yard run. LaneZimmer added the extra point to make it 7-0 with 8:41 left in the first quarter.

E.D. White tied the score in the opening seconds of the second quarter on a74-yard run by Jake Ritchie. Justin Verret’s extra point made it 7-all with11:46 left in the half.

Kennth Johnson regained the lead for the Bulldogs with 29.3 seconds leftbefore halftime with an 8-yard touchdown reception from Thomas Ricks.

The point average failed, leaving the score 13-7 at the break.

It was the Lutcher defense’s turn in the third quarter as Brad Whitney returned an interception 32 yards for a score as the quarter ended.

Zimmer’s kick gave the Bulldogs a 20-7 advantage heading into the final 12 minutes.

Ursin put the finishing touches on the victory by scoring from 15 yards out with 2:51 left in the contest. Zimmer added the final point of the game.Lutcher travels to Donaldsonville next Friday.
