MATHEWS – The Central Lafourche Trojans edged Hahnville’s Tigers in a 14-13 district contest, in which Central Lafourche held off a fourth- quarter rally to keep the Tigers off the winning side.

Central Lafourche improved to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in District 6-5A with the victory. Hahnville fell to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in district play.Hahnville’s Therrian Johnson opened the game’s scoring with a 1-yard run late in the first period. The successful point-after kick was by KerryFonseca.

Central Lafourche, though, roared back in the second quarter with two go- ahead TDs. The first, in a 12-yard passing play from Russell Carlisle toTravis Douglas, came with 9:12 remaining in the period. It was capped bythe tying extra point kick by Aaron Foret. The second, a 44-yard run byDarius Griffin, put the Trojans solidly in the lead, helped by another Foret extra point for a halftime tally of 14-7.

Hahnville and Central each went scoreless in the third quarter, but the Tigers threatened again halfway through the fourth period. A 1-yard run byDawan Landry sent the cold chills to the home team, but the unsuccessful extra point gave the Trojans a sigh of relief.

On the stat sheet, Hahnville led on first downs, 10-5, and overwhelmed Central Lafourche on rushing with 122 yards in 40 carries. The Trojans,meanwhile, had but 87 yards in 32 carries.

Hahnville also dominated the skies with 116 passing yards to the Trojans’ 25 passing yards, thus generating total offense of 238 for Hahnville and 112 for Central Lafourche.

In passing, Hahnville’s Dawan Landry completed 13 of 25 attempts.

Central’s Russell Carlisle completed but three of seven passes.

On the negative side, each team lost two fumbles. Hahnville led the way onpenalties, 11 for 100 yards, compared to three for 25 yards for Central Lafourche.

Darius Griffin led on individual rushing yardage for the Trojans, 17 carries for 69 yards and one touchdown. Hahnville’s Anthony Kenner carried 14times for 52 yards.

Norvel Revader made six receptions for 63 yards for the Tigers, while wilson Bower led receiving for Central, with one reception for 13 yards.

Kerry Fonseca made five punts for the Tigers, averaging 32.8 yards perpunt, with a long of 47 yards. Steve Bonvillian made six punts for Central,averaging 39.7 yards per punt, with a long of 63 yards.This week, Central Lafourche travels to Thibodaux, while Hahnville hosts East St. John.
