ST. JAMES – The St. James Wildcats fought the Lutcher Bulldogs to a 34-7victory last night at St. James High School before a huge, enthusiasticcrowd.

Wildcat running back Chad Jasmin gained 260 yards and scored three touchdowns to dominate the St. James offense against Lutcher.St. James improved to 6-1 on the season overall and 2-0 in District 10-3Aplay.

Lutcher lost for the first time since the opening week of the season, falling to 5-2 overall and 0-1 in district action.

It took the Wildcats just 2:01 to get their first touchdown of the evening when Chad Jasmin ran it straight up the middle for a 51-yard scoring run.

Alvin Bartholomew converted the extra point to give St. James a quick 7-0lead with 9:59 left in the first quarter.

On their first possession, Lutcher went three and out and, after an interference call on the punt, the Wildcats got the ball on their own 43- yard line. Good, smash-mouth running by Chad Jasmin and Chad Smithbrought the Wildcats to the Lutcher 25. That’s when St. James elected togo for a fourth and two on the Bulldog 17-yard line but Chad Jasmin was stuffed by a penetrating Jemelle Cage.

In the second quarter, Devon Dabny brought the Wildcats to the 12-yard line of Lutcher with a good run. With third and seven at the 10, CorryWebster found Alvin Bartholomew with a lob pass to the corner of the end zone and, with the extra point, extended the St. James lead to 14-0 with9:46 remaining in the half.

That drive consisted of nine plays that covered 52 yards with 9:46 to go in the half.

Lutcher could not get anything going in the first half and again had to turn the ball over.

On the second play of the Wildcats’ next possession, Chad Jasmin rammed it in from the 41-yard line of Lutcher on nothing but devastating speed and quick moves. This concluded a two-play scoring drive by St. James with3:56 left in the half, giving them a 21-0 lead they brought into the halftime locker room.

After managing to get only one first down in the half, Lutcher’s offense got off to a quick start in the third quarter, as Damian Ursin rambled 40 yards on the first play of the half for Lutcher. Jeremy Harry got his secondsack of the evening that moved the Bulldogs back to the 42-yard line of the Wildcats.

On a fourth-and-15, Thomas Ricks hit Kenneth Johnson with a 14-yard pass that just fell short. On the next play, the man of the night, ChadJasmin, ran it all the way in for a 73-yard TD run that was accomplished on nothing but pure speed.

The extra point was good for the 28-0 lead with 9:06 left in the third quarter.

Lutcher was mounting a serious drive late in the third quarter, but Eltonary Oubre stepped in front of a pass and gave the Wildcats possession at their own 29-yard line.

Later, with nine minutes left in the game, a bad punt by Lutcher gave St.

James the ball back on the Bulldogs’ 48-yard line. With good execution oftheir plays and the help of a face-mask penalty, St. James moved to the 5-yard line of Lutcher.

That’s when Corey Webster hit Davin Dennis with a 10-yard, over-the- shoulder touchdown pass with 4:12 remaining in the game. The extra pointattempt went wide, which made the score 34-0.

But a shutout was not going to happen this night. Thomas Ricks hit KennethJohnson, who then managed to get a couple of steps on his defender, and connected on a 74-yard pass, with 3:04 left in the game, making the final score 34-7.

St. James mounted 447 yards of total offense, compared to 208 forLutcher. St. James also led on first downs, with 18-6.Corey Webster for St. James was five for 13 for 87 yards and twotouchdowns. Thomas Ricks was nine for 19 with three interceptions for156 yards and one touchdown.

Lutcher hosts E.D. White in District 10-3A action next Friday. St. Jamestakes a break from district action when it hosts Lawless.
