St. Charles Catholic Quarterback Club meetings will be held everyTuesday night in the school cafeteria from now through the end of the season.

The Riverside Academy Quarterback Club will hold meetings every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Mike Hoss, sports anchor for WWL, Channel 4 in New Orleans, will be the guest speaker at the weekly Lutcher Quarterback Club meeting Tuesday night. As usual, chicken and dirty rice will be served beginning at 7:30 p.m.with the guest speaker following. Coach Tim Detillier will wrap up themeeting with his comments on last week’s game and the Bulldogs’ upcoming opponent.

The St. Charles Catholic Athletic Association is holding a monthly$1,000 raffle. Only 100 tickets will be sold each month at a cost of $20per ticket. The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring hunter safetyclasses that are free of charge.

All classes will be held at the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office DivisionHeadquarters in LaPlace. Registration is required and you must attend eachday for certification. The Unified Special Olympic Athletes will play the St. CharlesSheriff’s Office tonight at 6 p.m. at the East Bank Bridge Park. TheSheriff’s Office will follow by playing the St. Charles Senior All-Stars at7 p.m. The public is invited and concessions will be sold. The St. Charles Parish Department of Parks and Recreation ishosting a NFL Punt, Pass & Kick program at Harry Hurst Middle School in Destrehan on Sunday from 4-6 p.m.Girls and boys age group divisions are 8-9, 10-11, 12-13 and 14-15 years-old. Boys and girls compete separately in local divisions, with thetop finishers in each of the four age groups advancing to a sectional competition.

The Hunter Education Course sponsored by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries that was scheduled at Hahnville High School for September and postponed due to Hurricane Georges has been rescheduled at the high school Oct. 20-22 from 5-8 p.m.Participants must attend all three classes for certificate. Materials andmanual provided free of charge. Bring yellow highlighter and pen/paper.The program stresses hunter tradition and ethics, wildlife management and conservation, firearms and ammunition and firearm safety.

The course consists of 10 hours of classroom instruction, a final exam and participation in field exercise. Field exercise to be held off campus. Uponsuccessful completion, students will be issued a permanent certification card and an embroidered patch from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

The Riverside Academy Alumni Baseball game will be held Sunday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. on the Riverside diamond. The game has been moved to theFall to accommodate current college and professional baseball players from Riverside. The 20th Annual Andouille Run will be held Sunday, Oct. 25 at 8:30a.m. at the Percy D. Hebert Building Festival Grounds. A 5-mile run and 2-mile run/walk will be held.

Awards will be given to the top five male and female in the 2-mile and the first overall male and female in the 5-mile.

The entry fee is $8 before Oct. 20 and $10 after for the 2-mile and $10before Oct. 20 and $12 after for the 5-mile. Participants 18 and under or55 and over, take $2 off the regular pre-registration entry fee price.

Andouille Run T-shirts will be given to pre-registered entrants on race day. Late and race-day entrants may have to pick up their shirts at theSheriff’s Office in 3-4 weeks.

The St. Peter School’s Alumni and Friends Golf Tournamentscheduled for September 21 has been rescheduled for Monday, Oct. 26 atBelle Terre Country Club because of the excessive rainfall making the course unable to be played. Anyone interested in participating orsponsoring a hole can contact the school at 536-4296.

Quality Machine Works, Inc. will be hosting a Benefit Golf ClassicMonday, Oct. 26 at Pelican Point Golf Course in Gonzales.The proceeds from this tournament will benefit the “Get High on Life” Foundation. This foundation is a non-profit organization founded by HaroldKeller and which provides support to those individuals who are struggling with substance abuse, addiction or mental anguish.

The scramble will start with a shotgun start with tee times at 7:30 a.m.and 12:30 p.m. Entrance fee is $400 per team or $100 per individual andincludes green fees, cart, mulligans, range balls, shirt, unlimited refreshments, light lunch and dinner. Signs at tee boxes may be sponsoredfor $100.

North Oaks Health System in Hammond will host the Ninth Annual Ponchatoula-Middendorf’s Swamp Romp, a 10-mile social walk/run to promote wellness, Saturday, Oct. 31.The Swamp Romp is open to everyone and features a flat, straight route from Ponchatoula, along Old U.S. Highway 51, to Middendorf’s Restaurant inManchac. Walkers will begin at 7:30 a.m. followed by runners at 8:30 a.m.Preregistration is $10 on or before October 16 and $15 after October 16.

Long-sleeved T-shirts are available for $12. All proceeds will be donatedto the United Way Serving Tangipahoa Parish.

An official time clock will be used to determine awards for the male and female runners with the best times. Prizes also will be awarded to theoldest and youngest participants, as well as the top three costumes in an optional Halloween costume contest. At the finish line, runners andwalkers will be served Middendorf’s fried catfish dinners and entertained with live music.

Southeastern Louisiana University’s 6th annual golf scramble fundraiser has been set for Friday, November 6 at Santa Maria Country Club in Baton Rouge.

The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The field islimited to 25 foursomes and is open to men and women.

The entry fee is $65 per person which includes a cart, refreshments, a gift package, dinner following the tournament and individual prizes for closest to the hole and longest drive. All procceds from the tournament willbenefit SLU athletics.

The Chrysler Junior Golf Scholarship Program will award 40 $1,000 educational scholarships to America’s most deserving junior golfers.

The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year- round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally- retarded children and adults in Louisiana.

Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction as the fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
