LAPLACE – St. Charles Catholic’s Marci Martin helped the Lady Comets aceDestrehan Saturday morning in the St. Charles Catholic Tournament, 15-3,6-15, 15-7.

Martin had six aces, including five in the first game in the Lady Comets’ first match of the tournament. Destrehan had earlier fell to ArchbishopChapelle, 15-3, 15-11.

The Lady Comets fell behind Destrehan, 1-0, in the first game but came back with 11 straight points with Martin serving.

Two aces by Martin, a kill by Shannon Dolive and three Destrehan errors gave the Lady Comets a 6-1 lead. Three straight aces by Martin and killsby Dolive and Nicole Scontrino increased the cushion to 11-1.

After Destrehan came back with an ace by Angele Chauvin, the Lady Comets moved to game point on a block and a kill by Dolive. KristenClement got the game winner with a spike down the right baseline.

But any thoughts that Destrehan would go down easy were quickly dismissed by the Lady Cats. Two blocks by Ashley Nelson, a spike insidethe left line by Susan Baudier and an ace by Leslie Hall gave the Lady Cats a 5-0 lead.

St. Charles Catholic closed the gap to 5-3 on a dunk by Dolive and an aceby Martin. But Destrehan pulled away again, taking an 8-3 lead on a spikeby Chauvin and an ace by Angela Garrett.

Two aces by Chauvin increased the cushion to 11-5. An ace by AllisonBourgeois, a kill by Baudier and an error by the Lady Comets gave the Lady Cats the game.

Two aces by Chauvin and three St. Charles Catholic errors helped the LadyCats jump out to a 5-3 lead in the final game. The Lady Comets came backwith a 5-0 run behind a block by Nicole Rome and five Destrehan errors to take an 8-3 lead.

After a spike by Baudier, The Lady Comets used a tip by Cristin Clement and a kill by Sarah Weber to pull ahead 11-6.

An ace by Chauvin pulled the Lady Cats to within 12-7 but the Lady Comets answered with an ace by Krista Danos and a tip by Dolive to take the match.

St. Charles Catholic travels to E.D. White tomorrow before playing in theCountry Day Tournament over the weekend. Destrehan hosts cross-parishrival Hahnville tomorrow.

St. Charles Catholic moved to 14-3 overall while Destrehan fell to 4-14.
