LAPLACE – The St. Charles Comets stung the Pine Raiders last night inLaPlace for their second blowout in as many weeks on their home field.

The Pine Raiders received the opening kick off and quickly went three and out, and a punt off the side of Dusty Knight’s foot gave the Comets excellent field position at the Pine 33-yard line.

After executing a short run and screen pass with precision, St. Charles’Wayne Stein blew through the defense for a 20-yard touchdown run with only 2:26 off the clock.

Pine, which mishandled the ensuing kick off, was forced to start deep at the 8-yard line. The Raiders did managed to cross midfield with a 22-yardpass from Aaron Coates to Kirshun Williams, but a stinging Comet defense stopped the drive and forced a punt.

On the first play of the Comets’ next series the offense ran a reverse, and John Price passed the ball to his quarterback, Nick Monica, for a 12-yard gain.

On the next play Doug Friloux ran all the way in from 45 yards with strong heads-up running and blanketing downfield blocking with 3:28 remaining in the first quarter.

On the Comets’ next series quarterback Monica found his favorite receiver, Price, for a 12-yard touchdown pass with 2:26 remaining in the first quarter. The PAT made it made it 21-0.The Raiders still could not muster any offense, and when Stein partially blocked Knight’s punt St. Charles got the ball at the Raiders’ 39-yard line.Friloux eventually ran it in from the 3 and the PAT was good, giving St.

Charles a 28-0 lead with 10: 37 left in the second quarter.

Things did not improve much for Pine on its next possession as the Raiders went three and out. And once again the series was capped with an off-the-side-of-the-foot punt that netted only 8 yards.

The Comets got the ball on the Raiders’ 35, and two solid runs by Josh Schexnayder and Friloux drove the Comets once again inside the Raiders 5- yard line. That’s when Stein once again found the end zone with a 4-yardrun. And with seven minutes left to play in the half the Comets had a 35-0lead.

Pine fumbled the next kickoff, and St. Charles recovered on the 35-yardline of the Raiders. Price just missed a 43-yard field goal attempt as thehalf ended.

St. Charles took the second half kickoff, and on the third play of the thirdquarter Stein tracked 80 yards virtually untouched. It only took St. Charlesjust 1:18 to score in the second half, and the score was quickly 42-0.

St. Charles’ last score of the game came after Ricky Madere intercepted aRaiders’ pass and gave St. Charles the ball at Pine’s 30. From their theComets drove, and Friloux ran it in from the 4-yard line to make the score 49-0 with six minutes remaining in the third quarter.

The fourth quarter went by scoreless, even with a strong drive at the end of the game by the Raiders. It fell short with a Hail Mary pass into the endzone with no time remaining on the clock.

Stein led all rushers with 122 yards on six carries. Friloux had 66 yardson five rushing attempts, and Schexnayder added 45 yards on seven carries.

Nick Monica was a perfect four-for-four passing for 44 yards.

The Raiders had only 58 yards rushing and just 42 yards passing for 100 yards total offense.
