RESERVE – The East St. John Wildcats got off to a 4-0 start for the third-straight season with a 21-12 vcitory over Terrebonne Friday night at Joe Keller Stadium.

East St. John coach Ronnie Stephens had placed much on lack of practicetime his team had due to the effects of Hurricane Georges while his counterpart coach Pat Kee of the 2-3 Tigers looked more to his team’ s spirit and hard work. All was left was for the battle to settle the score. The Tiger won the toss and took possession first and did little with the ball. After a punt by the Tigers, the Wildcats showed what effects littlepratice can make and for six minutes, each team did very little.

Terrebonne’s Claude Johnson broke the stalemate by darting around the end and broke for the end zone for a touchdown with 5:27 in the first quarter.

Down 6-0, ESJ appeared a little stunned while Terrebone gain confidence with their performance.

The third period saw a barage of points as ESJ came alive at the 11:28 mark on a pass from quaterback Floyd Smith to tight end Jerome Anderson.

With Billy Hogan’s extra point, East St. John led, 7-6. Now the punishing running game came alive and with 2:38 left in the quarter, Brandon August punched it in off tackle on fourth-and-one.

The extra point was good and East St. John now lead 14-6.Not to be undone, Smith hooked up long distance with Roydel Williams for a bomb. What once was 6-0 deficit was now a 21-6 lead with 18seconds left in the third quarter.

Terrebone showed to they can connect long, making the score 21-12 after a failed two-point conversion converson by the Tigers.

The fourth quarter was dominated by the defenses with the Wildcats holding on for the win.

East St. John hosts H.L. Bourgeois next Friday while Terrebonne hostsSouth Lafourche.
