St. Charles Catholic Quarterback Club meetings will be held everyTuesday night in the school cafeteria from now through the end of the season.

The Riverside Academy Quarterback Club will hold meetings every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria.Tonight’s guest speaker is Scott Sidwell of the New Orleans Saints.

Darren Barbier, Nicholls State head football coach and former coach at Hahnville High School will be the guest speaker at the weekly Lutcher Quarterback Club meeting Tuesday night. As usual, chicken and dirty ricewill be served beginning at 7:30 p.m. with the guest speaker following.Coach Tim Detillier will wrap up the meeting with his comments on last week’s game and the Bulldogs’ upcoming opponent.

The St. Charles Catholic Athletic Association is holding a monthly$1,000 raffle. Only 100 tickets will be sold each month at a cost of $20per ticket. Drawings are to be held on the 28th of each month. For ticketinformation call coach Don Fernandez at St. Charles Catholic at 652-3029.

The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring hunter safetyclasses that are free of charge.

All classes will be held at the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office DivisionHeadquarters in LaPlace. Registration is required and you must attend eachday for certification. Class times will be from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.Saturday’s class will start at Nick’s Shooting Range in Garyville at 8 a.m.The schedule of classes: Oct. 20-22 and 24; and Nov. 17-19 and 21. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is sponsoring a free Louisiana Boating Safety Course today and tomorrow at Hahnville High School from 6-8:30 p.m. The course has been prepared by the LDWF to provide boaters with advice and information on safe and proper boat operation. By completing thecourse, boaters will improve their boating skills, become familiar with navigation rules and equipment and develop a positive attitude toward all water related activities as well as receiving a certificate to get a lower rate on their boat insurance. Families are encouraged to come together.To register contact the St. Charles Community Education Department at785-7268.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, in conjunction with local NBEF volunteer instructors, will sponsor a bowhunter education course 6-10 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Sheriff’s RifleRange on Savanne Road in Houma.

The contents of this course will cover history, responsible bowhunting practices, equipment, shot placement, tips on stand placement, tracking, first aid, safety while hunting and laws concerning bowhunting.

The first night will be entirely indoors instruction with Saturday being mostly outdoors. Tree stand safety will be demonstrated, a 3-D courseshot and a blood trail followed. Be sure to bring bug spray, boots, rain gearand archery equipment on Saturday morning.

Both days must be attended. The course is free to the public and willprovide certification anywhere in the U.S. where a bowhuntingcertification is required. For more information call John LeBlanc at (504)594-7142.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Department is offering a Huntersafety Course Sept. 28-30 at Hahnville High School.Course times are 5-9 p.m. Monday, and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.The free course is open to youngsters ages 10 and up, as well as adults.

Children younger than 10 can attend but will not receive certification.

Participants are asked not to bring a weapon to class.

This program stresses hunter tradition and ethics, wildlife management and conservation, firearms and ammunition and firearm safety. OnWednesday, participants will actually fire a shotgun. The weapon andammunition will be supplied by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Upon successful completion, students will be issued a permanent certification card from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Students must attend all classes to receive certification. Bringa yellow highlighter, pen and paper to class.

Tulane University has been selected to host the NCAA Football Campus Tour, Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the UC Quad lawn onthe campus at McAlister Drive.

Tulane is one of 30 stops on the tour, comprising six high-energy, football realted interactive events open to all ages – Air Crisps Quarterback Accuracy Challenge; GTE Head-to-Head Bungee Run; Sumo Football; KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell Obstacle Course; Chevy Trucks Field Goal Challenge and NCAA Football Fastest Person. Participants also have the opportunityto play the EA Sports NCAA Football ’99 video game in site. Eachinteractive event is free of charge and participants do not register in advance.

The second annual Bayou Brigade benefiting Special Olympics Louisiana will be held Sunday, Oct. 4.The Bayou Brigade is a motorcycle run that starts in Alexandria, travels to Baton Rouge before moving on to Gretna and the ending site at the Gretna Heritage Festival.

Preregistration, which takes place Sept. 15, costs $20 per rider and $15per passenger. On-site registration costs $25 per rider and $20 perpassenger. A limited number of T-shirts featuring the Bayou Brigademascot “Roux de Gator” are available and will be included in the registration packets while supplies last.

All proceeds from the event benefit the children and adults with mental disabilities who participate in Special Olympics Louisiana year-round programs of sports training and competition.

The St. Charles Catholic Homecoming/Ray Laiche Memorial GolfScramble will be held Monday, October 12 at Riverlands Country Club.

Cost is $100 per player and includes golf, lunch, drinks, dinner, tournament gift, mulligans and door prizes. Hole sponsorships areavailable at $50 per hole.

St. Peter Chanel School in Paulina will host its fifth annual golftournament on Monday, Oct. 12, at Briarwood Country Club on AirlineHighway in Baton Rouge.

Teams will consist of a four-man scramble and the entry fee is $75 per player or $300 a team which includes the green fees, cart, range balls, two mulligans, refreshments, lunch and dinner. Individuals who wish toplay but do not have a complete team will be assigned a team.

The top three teams will be awarded prizes as well as opportunities to win various contests. A bar-b-que sausage po-boy will be served for lunchand refreshments will be available during tournament play. Dinner will beserved at the end of the tournament for all players and hole sponsors.

The 20th Annual Andouille Run will be held Sunday, Oct. 25 at 8:30p.m. At the Percy D. Hebert Building Festival Grounds. A 5-mile run and 2-mile run/walk will be held.

Awards will be given to the top five male and female in the 2-mile and the first overall male and female in the 5-mile.

The entry fee is $8 before Oct. 20 and $10 after for the 2-mile and $10before Oct. 20 and $12 after for the 5-mile. Participants 18 and under or55 and over, take $2 off the regular pre-registration entry fee price.

Andouille Run T-shirts will be given to pre-registered entrants on race day. Late and race-day entrants may have to pick up their shirts at theSheriff’s Office in 3-4 weeks.
