RESERVE – The Reserve Christian Lady Eagles, who had been playing dreamily in their first season in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, got a wake up call Tuesday afternoon against Hosanna.

The Lady Eagles were 4-1 heading into their game against the Blazers with their only loss coming against Class 5A Central of Baton Rouge in the Hosanna Tournament. But the Blazers hung tough on the visiting court,coming away with a 15-7, 12-15, 15-10 victory.

“The theme of this game was wake up call,” Reserve Christian coach Michael Marix said. “Hosanna has a good team. They scrapped and hungtough and played good. I appreciate them giving us a good game on theirpart. Hopefully it will be a wake up call.”Hosanna jumped out to a 4-0 lead on four errors by the Lady Eagles.

Reserve Christian rallied, closing to 4-3 on a kill by Katie Millet and two errors by the Blazers. But Hosanna would come right back with LindseyCloessner serving, using four Reserve Christian errors to take an 8-3 lead.

Reserve Christian rallied again with Amber Keller serving. Ashley Holmesdelivered three consecutive kills and a block to close the gap to 9-7. ButHosanna closed out the game with a 6-0 lead.

Holmes’ spike went long and the Lady Eagles put consecutive returns into the net to increase the lead to 13-7. A kill by Tiffany Warner and an erroron Reserve Christian gave the Blazers the game-winning points.

Hosanna jumped out ahead again in the second game with three errors by Reserve Christian giving the Blazers a 3-0 lead. Reserve Christian bouncedback as consecutive aces by Holmes and an attack error by Hosanna tied the game at 4.

Hosanna went back ahead on consecutive kills by Tiffany Caffarel to take a 7-4 lead. But the Lady Eagles would go ahead with Summer Vicknairserving.

A spike off a defender by Keller and a dig by Vicknair tied the score at 7 before Hosanna called a timeout. After the break, the Lady Eagles surgedto a 10-7 advantage on two errors by Hosanna and an ace by Vicknair.

After an ace by Caffarel and a spike by Cloessner, Keller served an ace to bring the score to 12-9. Hosanna rallied to tie the score at 12 on a tip byWarner and two errors by the Lady Eagles. But the Lady Eagles bouncedback behind the serving of Vicknair, using two errors by Hosanna and a dink by Millet to take the game.

Reserve Christian took an early lead in the final game on consecutive aces by Holmes and an error by Hosanna. The Blazers came back on a kill byCaffarel and a lift by the Lady Eagles to take a 4-3 lead. Reserve Christiansurged back ahead on a bullet ace down the left side by Vicknair and two Hosanna errors.

But Hosanna would go ahead for good at 7-6 on three Reserve Christian errors. An ace by Caffarel gave the Blazers a 10-6 lead. Reserve Christianclosed to within 10-8 on a block by Holmes but a spike by Warner increased the lead to 13-8.

After a tip by Erica Russell brought the Blazers to match point at 14-9, the Lady Eagles hung tough, fighting off six consecutive serves before Hosanna put the match away as Holmes’ return went just long.

Holmes led the Lady Eagles with 16 kills and also was the top defensive player. Vicknair had a game-high five aces.Reserve Christian travels to the Louisiana School for the Deaf Tuesday before hosting the Reserve Christian tournament next Saturday.
