DESTREHAN – East Jefferson went to its trademark – defense – and took advantage of an off-day by the Destrehan hitters to take a 15-2, 15-4, victory Thursday afternoon in the Lady Cats gym.

East Jefferson improved to 3-1 on the season while Destrehan fell to 1-3.

The Lady Warriors started fast in the first set, taking a 3-0 lead on two lifts and a kill by Rebecca Glatt. Another error and an ace by DanielleTuckson increased that lead to five before the Lady Cats used a timeout.

East Jefferson kept it up after the break, using two Destrehan errors and a kill by Theresa Samuels made it 9-0.

A kill by Allison Bourgeois broke the East Jefferson serve and Erica Bierman got the Lady Cats on the board with another kill. But the LadyWarriors got the serve back with a cross-court kill by Kimberly Bergeron.

After the Lady Warriors surged to a 12-1 lead, the Lady Cats got another point when a lift was called with Angele Chauvin serving. But EastJefferson then put the game away when two lifts were called against the Lady Cats.

Two errors by Destrehan ended the match.Tuckson led the Lady Warriors with two aces while Samuels had a game- high five kills. Bourgeois led the way for the Lady Cats with two killswhile also providing top defense.

“East Jefferson played a good game,” Destrehan coach Calvin Ike said.

“That was the worst we have hit all season long. We had a number oferrors and a lot of things we caused ourselves. We had our passes andreturns but the hitting wasn’t there. That was the biggest factor of thegame. We are going to better as the season goes on.”East Jefferson coach John Trepagnier said that because of the height disadvantage his team has, he has to stress defense.

“We are hustle and bumblebees out there,” Trepagnier said. “Because ofour height, that is what I emphasize. We have to pick everything off thefloor.”
