LAPLACE – St. Charles Catholic, which faced one of the top running backsin the state Friday in Archbishop Hannan’s Jeff Sanchez, will see another dangerous running back this week as it travels to Baton Rouge to take on Redemptorist.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sophomore Shelton Sampson was a second-team all-District 8-3A selection last season after rushing for 601 yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging 7.3 yards per carry. Sampson helped the Wolves to a 46-6victory over Dunham last week by rushing for 108 yards and three touchdowns. The scores came on runs of 9, 40 and 24 yards and he alsoadded a two-point conversion.

Shawn Lambert returned a kickoff 92 yards for a score and also added a 9- yard touchdown run as the Wolves racked up 214 yards rushing.

Caleb Macha, one of three quarterbacks who battled for the starting role in the preseason, threw a 34-yard scoring pass to Wendal Dillon and also ran for a 6-yard score.

On defense, the Wolves held Dunham to 156 total yards. Redemptorist isled by its front line led by defensive ends Chuck Wilson and Stephen Westfall. A question mark comes at linebacker where the Wolves start allfirst-time starters.

St. Charles Catholic is coming off a 49-13 defeat at Hannan. Sanchez, aDivision I prospect, rushed for 266 yards and three touchdowns on 22 attempts. Senior quarterback Allen Cox completed six of his 11 passes for200 yards and three touchdowns. Hannan finished with 561 yards in totaloffense.

St. Charles Catholic jumped on top as Nick Monica connected with JohnPrice on a 62-yard scoring strike. But Hannan responded with 22unanswered points on two scoring runs by Sanchez and a pass by Cox.

After the Comets cut the deficit to nine on a 9-yard run by Julian Ward, the Wolves answered with two touchdown passes by Cox and a scoring run by Sanchez.

Wayne Stein led the way offensively for the Comets with 71 yards on 17 carries while Price caught three passes for 82 yards.

St. Charles Catholic defeated Redemptorist, 21-8, at home last season.Stein and Ward scored on seven yard runs and Brian Horvath added a 63- yard scoring dash.

The Comet defense limited the Wolves to 215 yards in offense and had a shutout going into the fourth quarter.

The Comets hold their season-opener against Christian Life next Friday.
