LAPLACE – The 1998-99 prep season marks a new beginning for athletics at Reserve Christian School. After years of playing in the LouisianaChristian Schools Athletic Association, Reserve Christian moved into the Louisiana High School Athletic Association this year and will compete in Class B.

The Lady Eagles volleyball team got its first taste of LHSAA action Tuesday afternoon at the St. Charles Catholic jamboree. And if the team’splay in the jamboree is any indication, it should be successful first season as the Lady Eagles, coming off four straight LCSAA state titles, opened the jamboree with a 10-5 victory over the St. Charles Catholic juniorvarsity.

The Lady Comets took advantage of early nervousness by the Lady Eagles to take a 5-0 lead. An ace by Kristen Clement and a block by CourtneyDornier and three attack errors by Reserve Christian gave the Lady Comets the five-point lead.

Reserve Christian began to rally after coach Mike Marix called a time out to settle the team down. Two dunks by Kelly McGee and a block by KatieMillet brought the Lady Eagles to 5-4. Two attack errors by St. CharlesCatholic would give the Lady Eagles their first lead.

Reserve Christian would increase that lead to 8-5 two serves later on a spike and a block by Ashley Holmes. After a timeout by St. CharlesCatholic, the Lady Eagles would close out the match with a spike by Holmes and an ace by McGee.

Reserve Christian also rallied from an early deficit against Lutcher before falling 10-5. The Lady Eagles trailed 6-0 before a dunk by McGee and threeattack errors by Lutcher brought them to within 6-4. After the LadyBulldogs increased their margin to 9-4, an ace by Amber Keller brought the Lady Eagles to within four before Lutcher closed out the match.

Reserve Christian closed out the jamboree with a 10-3 loss to St. Martin’sbut Marix said he was very pleased with his team’s play.

“We are very glad we had this tournament against higher competition and classification,” Marix said. “We need to check to see where we are goinginto our season.

The first win was really awesome, to come back the way we did. I thoughtwe did better than I thought we would. Once we got the butterflies out, wewent right to work. I am ready to move into district and hopefully competefor the district crown.”Marix said the team played consistently, one of the three Cs it has set for itself for the 1998 season.

“Christ-like, communication and consistency,” Marix explained. “I thinkwe did all three today.”
