DEAR EDITOR: On Aug. 1, the first safeHarbor project was completed in St. CharlesParish. The Coalition is dedicated to bringing together volunteers andresources to repair homes of the elderly in need, so that they may continue to live safely in their homes. The safeHarbor Coalition iscomposed of United Way of St. Charles and three of its funded agencies:the St. Charles Council on Aging, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Programand the Volunteer and Information Agency.

We want to express our sincere thanks to Entergy and its employees, and contractors Stone & Webster and Hy-Tech, who participated in our first home repair project. It is a special person who gives from the heart sothat others can find new life and hope. Thanks to the generosity of theEntergy team, the home of Mr. Curtis Jacobs in New Sarpy has been madebetter and safer, and he can continue his independence.

Another company has already volunteered for project No. 2 and otherteams have come forward to join our Coalition. Please let all groups in thecommunity know that they can become part of the safeHarbor Coalition by calling Alice Johnson at St. Charles Council on Aging at 783-6683.St. Charles Parish can be justifiably proud of the volunteers in ourcommunity who are willing to give precious time and effort to helping our older citizens live safer, healthier lives. All of us at United Way of St.Charles, St. Charles Council on Aging, Retired and Senior VolunteerProgram and the Volunteer and Information Agency salute you.
