Character breakfast planned in NorcoNORCO – A character breakfast will be held Saturday at the Knights of Columbus Home in Norco.

All proceeds will benefit the St. Charles Parish Queen’s Scholarship Fund.Cost is $5 per child and includes breakfast and a picture with a character.

There will also be singing, dancing and games.

The breakfast will begin at 10 a.m.

‘Life After Elvis’ on stage this weekend

LAPLACE – Theatre Magic Co. takes to the stage at BB’s Lounge to present”Life After Elvis,” a one-act comedy, Friday and Saturday.

The comedy, directed by William F. Lovetro and Suzette A. Hullette,features veteran actors Fred Giangrosso, Sean Sanchez and Hullette. Itwas written by Jason Milligan.

The play asks the question: What if Elvis were alive and well and living in middle America? “Life After Elvis” depicts the king of rock-and-roll posing as a guest in the home of an average couple under the federal witness protection program.

As a special treat, each evening audience members may view one of Elvis’ Cadillacs and meet professional Elvis impersonator C. J. Matherne.Lovetro, president of Theatre Magic Co., commented: “Many patrons of theformer Beverly Dinner Playhouse have requested that dinner theatre be revived in this area.”He continued: “It was through this demand, plus the desire for an outlet for local artists to express their art, that Theatre Magic was formed.”Tickets are $28.50 and $25 and include dinner and the play. Monday Night Disciples forming group in LaPlace

LAPLACE – Monday Night Disciples is a group of men coming together for prayer and fellowship to praise and worship the one true God in community, to serve and support each other, the church and the community and to unite a Catholic men’s group under the banner, “Catholic Men in Action,” with Jesus as leader and the church as teacher, keeping the identity of each group in union with each other.

The Monday Night Disciples was formed in 1985 by Danny Abramowicz in Metairie. There are now three chapters in the New Orleans area, onestarting up in Luling, one in Steubenville, one in Biloxi, and over 100 in the Chicago area. It has finally made its way to LaPlace.Meetings will be held on the second and fourth Monday of each month in the Ascension of Our Lord School library.

The first meeting is July 13. A guess speaker will explain the purpose ofthe meetings.

Miss, Master Tri-Parish pageant set

The First annual Miss and Master Tri-Parish pageant will be held Aug. 23at the Dupont Pero Building in Reserve.

Pageant attire is pageant wear, Sunday best and evening gown (9-16).

Age divisions and times are: * 0-6 months: 10:30 a.m.* 7-12 months: 11 a.m.* 13-24 months: 11:30 a.m.* 3-5 years: noon * 6-8 years: 12:30 p.m.* 9-12 years: 1 p.m.Entry fee is $25, with a $5 late fee after deadline. Joneses sponsoring trip to Holy Land

GRAMERCY – The Rev. and Mrs. Sam Jones will lead a 10-day tour to theHoly Land, Israel, March 8, 1999.

Rev. Jones, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Gramercy, is hosting his10th tour to Israel.

The tour will visit the places where Jesus walked and taught, including the cities of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa, Tiberas (located on Sea of Galilee) and many more.

St. John Sugar Queen pageant Aug. 8

RESERVE – The St. John Theatre and Sugar Queen Pageant committee willbe celebrating the St. John Sugar Queen pageants 50th anniversary on Aug.8.

Tracey Burger, the 49th queen, will be joined by the former Sugar Queens to celebrate this special occasion. What a great year to participate in oneof the oldest traditions of our great parish.

Requirements for Sugar Queen are: * You must be a resident of St. John Parish.* You must be a female between the ages of 17-23.

* A registration fee of $10 is required.

DHS Class of ’88 planning reunion

DESTREHAN – Destrehan High School’s Class of 1988 is planning its 10- year reunion on Aug. 22.The event will be held at The Rose Garden, 5616 Citrus Boulevard, Harahan, from 9 p.m.-midnight. Cost is $40 per person or $75 per couple.The deadline is June 30.

Summer Variety Show planned for July 31 NORCO – Norco Adult Day Care will sponsor the seventh annual Summer Variety Show July 31 at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart School auditorium, 453Spruce Street in Norco.

A $1 ticket will admit one person and give that person a chance at several door prizes to be given away during the performance.

Some performers for the show include A.J. Wrape, a very talented youngflute player, vocals by Irma Green and Nannah Schmill, and dance numbers by Yvonne’s Directions in Dance, Johanna’s Jazz in Motion, Dance Unlimited, Lori’s Dance in Motion, and The Dixie Cloggers.

During the intermission there will be refreshments available and several door prizes will be given away.

DESTREHAN – The deadline to enter the St. Charles HumaneSociety photo contest has been extended to July 15.

Entry fee is $5 per photo for the Best Photo, Cutest Photo and Funniest Photo categories. All photos, if possible, will befeatured in the 1999 calendar.

LAPLACE – The Riverlands SPCA is looking for volunteers to help with upcoming fund-raising events and daily duties of the organization.
