* The Riverside Football camp for boys ages 5-12 will be held July 13- 16 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Riverside football field.The fee is $40 and includes a T-shirt. Activities include skilldevelopment; punt, pass and kick competition; weights; speed drills and basic fundamentals of football.

* Southeastern Louisiana University announces its summer camp schedule. The Ronnie Armeda volleyball camp for girls entering grades 6through 12 will be held in the University Center and the Recreational Center Monday through Thursday.

Head baseball coach Greg Marten is holding two baseball camps. A full daycamp will be held Monday through Friday and a half day camp July 13-17.

Both will be held at the SLU baseball diamond. Indoor and outdoor battingcages will also be utilized. The camp is offered to all boys ages six and up.There will also be a day camp for boy’s basketball August 3-7. The campwill be held in the University Center on the SLU campus.

The Frank Schneider/SLU Girls Basketball camp will be located in the University Center July 27-31 and is offered to all girls ages six and older.

The Steve Carter Tennis camp will be available for boys and girls ages 7- 17 and is for all ability levels and will be for both resident and day campers.

SLU head coaches and assistants will be present at their respective camps.

Komen Breast Cancer Foundation’s Race for the Cure, a 5K race scheduled for Oct. 24.Thibodaux joins 79 other cities in 41 states as a Race for the Cure site.

This event is organized to raise funds for breast cancer education and research. All proceeds will fund programs in our community. Groupsinterested in obtaining funding for programs are invited to a free grant- writing training class on July 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Class size islimited. * The Louisiana Soccer Association will hold its annual general meeting and workshops July 11-12 at the Radisson Hotel on Veterans Blvd. in Kenner.

A vendor’s show and workshops for administrators and coaches will be held on Saturday, July 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration begins at 7:30a.m. and the workshops and cendors’ show is free and open to the public.All workshops and meetings will be held at the Radisson Hotel, except for two coaches workshops in the afternoon, which will be held at the training field for the New Orleans Storm next to Zephyr Stadium.

The key clinician for the workshops will be Jay Miller, the coaching coordinator for the southeast for U.S. Soccer. Miller is a United StatesSoccer Foundation national staff coach and coached the under 17 men’s national team at the Youth World Cup in Egypt last September.

Other clinicians include Terri Brunson, the state administrator for Louisiana Soccer; Joe Perret, youth recreational commissioner for Louisiana Soccer; Roger Bimah, head coach of women’s soccer at Nicholls State University; Blake Hornbuckle, head coach of women’s soccer at Southeastern Louisiana University; Ed Taylor, head coach of men’s soccer at Louisiana College; and Sam Snow, Director of Coaching for Louisiana Soccer and a U.S. Soccer national staff coach.In addition to workshops and the vendors’ show, on Saturday evening soccer fans will attend the New Orleans Storm A-League match versus the California Jaguars at Zephyr Stadium. Business meetings and electionswill be held Sunday, July 12.

* The Destrehan Fighting Wildcat Basketball camp, conducted by head coach Mike McGuire, his staff and several varsity players, will be held July 27-31 from 3-5 p.m. at the Destrehan gym for ages 7-14.The cost is $50 and includes camp T-shirt and basketball. Each player willbe taught, observed and corrected in the fundamentals of basketball.

Campers will be age and ability grouped. Shooting drills and games will beheld as well as 3 on 3 and 5 on 5 team competitions.
