Parker named manager of LaRoche in GramercyL’Observateur / July 1, 1998GRAMERCY – Steven M. Parker has assumed the plant manager position atLaRoche Industries’s chlor-alkali and fluorocarbon plant in Gramercy.

Parker came to LaRoche with 17 years of experience at Dow Chemical Co., latelyas a Global Area Manufacturing Leader responsible for managing four chemical plants.

Prior to that, Parker oversaw the operations of Dow’s largest chlorine plant in Plaquemine. He holds a chemical engineering degree from Mississippi StateUniversity. He is married, with four children.LaRoche Industries, headquartered in Atlanta, is a worldwide producer and distributor of nitrogen-based chemical products, chlor-alkali products and specialty chemicals..In the U.S., LaRoche operates six manufacturing plants, including the Gramercyfacility, 22 distribution centers and four warehouse/terminals.

Linnartz named senior lead facilitator

Duane Linnartz has been named senior lead facilitator, total quality at the Waterford 3 Nuclear Plant. In his new position, Linnartz willbe responsible for facilitation training and coordination and internal consulting.

Linnartz is a resident of Luling. His hobbies are public speaking andwoodworking. He is a member of Toastmasters International, and hehas bachelor of science degrees in psychology and nuclear science.

Manpower hiring poll shows rise this summer

LAPLACE – Summertime hiring activity will advance somewhat in the LaPlace area, based on employers’ responses to the third quarter employment outlook survey, Manpower Inc.’s quarterly hiring poll.The report, just released by Manpower spokesperson Jerry Braud, indicates staff additions are planned this summer by 26 percent of businesses surveyed, while three percent anticipate payroll reductions. The remaining 71 percent intend tomake no changes.

“Companies contacted about hiring plans three months ago expressed similar projections, when 23 percent expected to add personnel and three percent prepared for cutbacks. One year ago, 23 percent forecast increased employmentrolls, while 6 percent predicted a staffing downturn.” Braud added that manyemployers will continue to find available labor in short supply this quarter.

For July, August and September, job prospects are most apparent in construction, non-durable goods manufacturing, wholesale/retail trade and services. The outlook is stable in other sectors.Nationally, demand for workers will remain exceptionally high with 32 percent planning staff increases, five percent anticipating cutbacks, 59 percent no change and four percent still uncertain.

Williams will practice medicine in LaPlace

LAPLACE – River Parishes Hospital and R. Royce Sistrunk, M.D.announce the association of Dr. Katherine L. Williams as a full-timeobstetrician/gynecologist.

A graduate of Louisiana State University School of Medicine, Dr.

Williams will complete her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at LSU Medical Center in July. She is currently president of CharityHouse Staff Association and received the House Officer I Student Teaching Award from LSU Medical Center OB/GYN Department.

She is a member of the American Medical Association, Southern Medical Association and the American College of obstetrics and gynecology.

Specializing in women’s health, Dr. Williams will be available to seepatients on a full-time basis beginning July 15. Her office will belocated in the River Parishes Hospital Medical Pavilion at 502 Rue de Sante, Suite 301, LaPlace. Appointments may be made by calling 651-5751.Back to Top
