Mrs. Champagne celebrates100th birthday with reception

Mrs. O’Neil Joseph (Gilberta Millet) Champagne celebrated her 100thbirthday on May 7.

She was born in Lions on May 7, 1898, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. AlbertMillet.

A surprise reception was held in her honor on May 2. The festivities werehosted at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Donny Tregre, in Ormond Subdivision in Destrehan, where Mrs. Champagnecurrently resides. She resided in Reserve for 70 years prior to 1996.In attendance at the social gathering were Evelyn Champagne, daughter- in-law; Dr. Lloyd P. and Sara Jean Champagne, son and daughter-in-law; allof Baton Rouge; and Carl and Elaine Champagne, son and daughter-in-law, of Prairieville.

Champagne was additionally surprised by the attendance of Mrs. Elida(Millet) Caillouet of Baker and Lillie Mae (Millet) Cashio of Garyville, her sisters. Other attendees included numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Champagne related some of the experiences of the previous 100 years and entertained her guests in her usual happy and whimsical fashion.
