Lutcher Finishes Fourth In Piccadilly Cup Standings

BATON ROUGE – Lutcher finished in fourth place in Class 3A in the running for the inaugural Louisiana High School Athletic Association Piccadilly Cup.

Lutcher scored 140 points with first place finishes in softball and boys’ swimming and a third place finish in girls’ swimming. Catholic of NewIberia finished first in the classification, totaling 240 points with first place finishes in boys and girls cross country and boys golf and second place finishes in football and girls’ tennis.

In Class 5A, Jesuit compiled 215 points with first place finishes in swimming, wrestling and golf, a third place finish in cross country and a fourth place finish in football.

In Class 4A, Baton Rouge High School accumulated 295 points with first place finishes in boys and girls gymnastics, second place finishes boys and girls swimming, boys soccer and girls tennis, third place finishes in boys and girls cross country and a tie for fourth in boys tennis.

In Class 2A, Newman compiled 260 points with first place finishes in volleyball and boys tennis, second place finishes in boys swimming, boys soccer and boys golf, third place finishes in girls cross country and girls swimming and a fourth place finish in girls gymnastics.

Presently in Class 1A the winning school is yet to be officially determined pendinga ruling to be rendered by the LHSAA Executive Committee on June 10.

In Class B, Episcopal of Acadiana compiled 145 points with first place finishes in boys cross country and volleyball and a second place tie in boys tennis.

In Class C, Northlake Christian totaled 110 points with a first place finish in girls track, semi-finalist in softball and volleyball fourth place finishes in boys and girls cross country.

The Piccadilly Cup was established this school year by the LHSAA as its all-sports award. Schools earned points by finishing in the top four placesin each of the 23 sports sanctioned by the LHSAA.

Total points accumulated at the end of the school year determine the winners. Champions in each sport receive 60 points, runners-up 30 points,third place winners 20 and fourth place winners 10. In sports withundetermined third and fourth places, 15 points were awarded to each semifinalist.
