Job Fair planned June 5

EDGARD – The first River Region Caucus Job Fair, designed to attract area major employers and potential employees, is planned June 5 at West St. John High School from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Besides the usual booths representing various employers, there also will be seminars for job-seekers in topics including resume writing, filling out applications, interview techniques and job hunting strategies.

Additionally, information will be available on area skills-training resources.

“We’re finding more and more industries are looking for a trained workforce above anything else,” St. John Parish President Arnold Labat,who spearheaded the job fair through the caucus, said.

The River Region Caucus is an informal discussion panel representing parish and municipal governments in St. John the Baptist, St. James andSt. Charles parishes.”Many people think they have to go to college to get a good job,” Labat continued, “but they can make good money as a welder, pipefitter, whatever.”The list of businesses and industries represented at this job fair includes Bolinger Shipyards of Thibodaux, River Parishes Hospital of LaPlace, Civil Construction of Hahnville, Onsite Commercial of New Orleans, Zen-Noh Grain of Convent, Hill City Oil Co. of Houma, Harmony Construction ofBaton Rouge, St. James Parish Hospital of Lutcher, Louisiana Machinery ofReserve, Bayou Steel Corp. of LaPlace, Marathon-Ashland Petroleum ofGaryville, Sunshine Equipment Co. of LaPlace, Olsten Staffing of LaPlace,Weisner Security Services of New Orleans, Betr-Care Inc. of Reserve,TransAmerican Refinery of Norco, Holmes Food Marts of Norco, JDR Inc. ofBoutte, St. James Youth Center of St. James, AME Services of Norco,Manpower Inc. of LaPlace, Russell Stanley of Reserve, AM-PM TemporaryServices of Luling, Waste Management of LaPlace, T.L. Resources for training to be represented include the Tri-Parish JTPA, ITI Technical College of Baton Rouge, Nicholls State University of Thibodaux, the U.S. Army, the U.S. Air Force and Louisiana Technical College, RiverParishes Campus.
