HAHNVILLE – The American Heart Association put local citizens under lock and key last Wednesday during a Cardiac Arrest event at the St. CharlesParish Courthouse.

Cardiac Arrest parole wardens Lt. Dwayne LaGrange and Susie Breaux saidthe St. Charles Parish Cardiac Arrest is unique as it combines fund-raising and fun into one event. In order to be released, the “jailbirds”must post “bail.” One purpose of this event is to receive donations thatwill assist the American Heart Association in its fight against heart disease and stroke – St. Charles Parish’s number one killer.St. Charles Parish jailbirds included Sheriff Greg Champagne, AssessorClyde Gisclair, Parish President Chris Tregre, Judge Robert Chiasson, Neal Ayme of First American Bank, Noble Benoit of Hibernia National Bank, Mary Lee Ockman and Olga Burke of First NBC, attorneys Paul Billingsley and Louis Authement, Dr. Jack Moreau, Warren Benoit of Benoit & Associates,Susan Hymel of Destrehan High School, Assistant District Attorney Jerry Rome, Tab Troxler, director of St. Charles Parish Emergency OperationsCenter, Warden Roland Ladreyt and Cynthia Hymel, Meriel Loupe and Ramona Schexnaydre, all of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.Donations made to the American Heart Association are used to fund research, education and community service programs throughout the state.

The work done by AHA research has led to advanced cardiovascular medicine in areas that include blood pressure medication, CPR, surgical procedures such as bypass surgery, nutritional standards and exercise modification.

The event was sponsored by Majoria’s Food Center, Radiofone, Winn-Dixie, and the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
