Rams place third at regionals

EDGARD – West St. John got first-place finishes from triple jumper Adair Alexander and its 400- and 800-meter relay teams to place third at the Region 3-2A track meet at West St. John Wednesday afternoon.The Rams finished with 68 points. St. Thomas Aquinas, led by co-outstanding track performer George Baxter, edged out Newman, 82-81, for the regional championship. Loranger was fourth with 42 points, followed by Riverside with 41. St. Charles Catholic finiAlexander won the regional championship with a jump of 41 feet, 6 1/2 inches. Teammate Dehaven Duronslet also qualified for the state meet, finishing third with a jump of 41-4. Duronslet had just missed qualifying in the long jump, missing out on third byDonavan Pierre qualified for the Rams with a second-place finish in the high jump. Pierre cleared the bar at 5-10, finishing behind Ridgewood’s Jerry Hillburn, who also jumped 5-10 but had fewer misses during the course of the meet. St. Charles Catholic’sIn the running events, the Rams took the lead in the 400-meter relay on the third leg and held off Redeemer-Seton at the end, winning with a time of 44.78 seconds. Earlier, the 800-meter relay team placed first with a time of 1:32.09. The 1600-meter relayRysean Brown ran a 52.33 to place second in the 400 meters and qualify for the Rams. St. Thomas Aquinas’ Roger Rholden finished first with a time of 51.51.Riverside’s Travis Bourgeois qualified in two events. Bourgeois had a throw of 47 1/2 to place second in the shot put and finished third in the discus with a throw of 129-10. Newman’s Adam Biderman won both events and was named the meet’s outstanding fielKeith LeBlanc qualified by finishing third in the javelin with a throw of 154-2. Pope John Paul’s Eddie Burger won the event with a throw of 166-7. The Rebels’ 1600-meter relay team also had a qualifying time of 3:36.01, placing third.Redeemer-Seton’s Harold Ebanks had a victory in the 200 meters to tie Baxter for outstanding track honors.
