DESTREHAN – Craig Coleman placed second in both the 100- and 200-meter runs to help the Hahnville boys to a first-place finish at the Destrehan Wildcat Relays Friday afternoon.

The Tigers finished with 144 points, well ahead of second-place finisher St. Augustine with 124 points. The host Wildcats were right behind inthird with 122 points, followed by East St. John (79), Douglass (51) andO.P. Walker (24).Destrehan, behind the outstanding field performances by Kammi Darensbourg and Amanda Spivey and the outstanding track performance of Latoya Breaux, took the girls’ competition with 181 points. East St. Johnwas second with 123 points, followed by O.P. Walker (61), Hahnville (49),Karr (42) and West St. John (18).Coleman was named the meet’s outstanding track performer after finishing the 100-meters in 10.81 seconds and the 200-meters in 22.30.Coleman also helped the Tigers’ relay teams place first in the 800- and 400-meters with times of one minute, 29.67 seconds and 43.18,respectively. Hahnville also finished second to St. Augustine in the 1600-meter relay.

Antoine Williams gave the Tigers a first-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 173 feet, 11 inches. Williams also won the 200-meter run with atime of 22.24. Chris Fordham added a win in the 3200-meters with a timeof 10:59.86 and was second in the 1600-meters with a time of 5:03.75.Ronald Clark placed second in the shot put with a throw of 44-9.

Destrehan’s Chris Bullock was selected as the outstanding field performer after winning the shot put and the discus with throws of 46 1/2 and 152- 7 1/2, respectively.

Traun Smith gave the Wildcats a first-place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 47-3. Smith also placed second in the long jump with a jump of21-1 1/2.

Teammate Carlos Eugene was right behind in the triple jump with a jump of 47-1 and also placed third in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-10.

Josh Blackwell added a first-place finish in the pole vault with a vault of 11-0.

It was Destrehan one-two in the 110-meter hurdles with Germond Williams beating out Fred Smith, 14.66-14.88. The Wildcat relay teamsplaced second in both the 800- and 400-meter events.

East St. John got first place finishes from Alex Edwards in the high jumpand Chris Bush in the long jump. Edwards cleared the bar at 6-4, whileBush jumped 22-0. Bush also placed third in the javelin with a throw of142-8 and third in the triple jump with a jump of 44-5 1/2.

Juan Reese finished second in the javelin with a throw of 142-9, while Corey Sewell placed third in the shot put and discus with throws of 43-10 and 109 1/2, respectively.

In the girls’ competition, Spivey won the high jump, clearing the bar at 5- 0, and also placed second in the long and triple jumps with jumps of 15-5 and 32-1 1/4, respectively. Teammate Joevone Markey placed second inthe high jump by also clearing the bar at 5-0.

Darensbourg won the shot put and javelin competitions while placing third in the discus. Darensbourg threw 34-11 in the shot put, 102-10 in thejavelin and 82-9 1/2 in the discus.

Hahnville’s Lashanda Lorio placed second in the shot put and discus, while Reanda Fields placed second in the javelin.

In the running events, Breaux took first in both the 100- and 200-meters with times of 12.10 and 25.51, respectively. Breaux also placed third inthe long jump. The Lady Cats relay teams placed first in the 400-metersand second in the 1600 meters.

East St. John’s Yoshiko Taylor had first-place finishes in the 1600- and3200-meter runs. Taylor ran the 1600-meters in 6:05.15 and the 3200-meters in 13.27.66. East St. John’s relay teams also took first in the 800 and 1600 meterswith times of 1:49.95 and 4:30.99, while finishing second in the 400meters. Hahnville’s relay teams placed third in the 800 meters.The competition was a warmup for the three teams heading into district competition. The District 6-5A meet will be held today at Thibodaux withevents scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Regionals begin May 1 with the statecompetion starting May 7.
