RESERVE – Tanya Teague held St. Charles Catholic to three hits as theRiverside Lady Rebels clinched their second straight District 9-2A title with a 6-0 victory Tuesday afternoon.

Teague went the distance, striking out 13 and walking one in improving her record to 17-5 on the season. St. Charles Catholic’s Marci Martin alsopitched the complete game, 10 hits while striking three and walking two in falling to 13-5 on the season.

Riverside improved to 18-6 on the season and 9-0 in district play.

Riverside finished the season undefeated in district play by defeating Ecole Classique, 6-0, Wednesday. St. Charles Catholic fell to 17-7 overalland 7-2 in District 9-2A.

The Lady Rebels set the stage early, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Marci Remondet opened the inning by beatingout a grounder back to the mound. Bridget Lambert followed with a fly ballto Sarah Weber in center field. Weber threw back to first to double upRemondet, but had her throw sail past the bag, allowing Remondet to go to second.

Missy Martin brought Remondet in by lining a double into the right-center field gap. After Katy Brady flied out to right, Mandy Roussel ripped asingle to right field, scoring Martin to make it 2-0.

The Lady Comets threatened in the top of the second as Alisha Reine lined a triple into the right field corner. But Teague pitched out of the jam bystriking out Marci Martin and getting Kristin Oberschmidt to fly out to center.

The Lady Rebels added a run in the bottom of the inning as Courtney St.

Amant led off with a bad-hop single into right field. One out later withAshley Bourgeois at the plate, St. Charles Catholic catcher Kori Guillorythrew down to first to pick off St. Amant. St. Amant broke for second andOberschmidt’s throw to get her sailed into left field, allowing her to come all the way around to score.

St. Charles Catholic left fielder Casey Faust made the defensive gem ofthe game in the bottom of the third, nabbing Missy Martin’s fading, sinking line drive at her shoe tops for the first out of the inning.

The Lady Rebels tacked on a run in the bottom of the fourth as Amy Graugnard doubled into the right-center field gap and came in to score on a single to center by Remondet. Bourgeois, who had reached on an error andgone to second on a single by Amy Trepagnier, was thrown out at the plate by a strong throw by Weber on the play.

Katy Brady reached on a force out and courtesy runner Jennifer Guidry scored on an overthrow by Guillory on a chopper in front of the plate by Roussel to give the Lady Rebels a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth. TheLady Rebels scored their final run in the sixth as Remondet singled and scored on a single to left by Lambert.

St. Charles Catholic threatened in each of the final two innings, butTeague was able to pitch out of both threats.

After Lambert made a running catch of Faust’s fly ball into the right- center field gap to open the sixth, Guillory singled to left with one out and was sacrificed to second by Shannon Dolive. But Teague struck out JessieZeringue to end the inning.

Reine opened the seventh with a single and was forced out at second by Marci Martin. One out later,Weber was hit by a pitch but Teague struck out Kristen Clement to end the game.

“We have been playing well and stepping it up,” Riverside coach Matt White said. “We jumped on them early and were ready to play ball from theget go. We played strong defense and got some great plays in the infieldand outfield. It was a total team effort, just how you draw it up beforethe game. When Tanya is on and we play good defense, we are a tough teamto beat.”The Lady Comets have clinched second place in District 9-2A after defeating West St. John Wednesday and will enter the bi-district playoffsthis week as the number two seed.

“Tanya exploited our weaknesses and pitched very well,” St. CharlesCatholic coach Teri Hruska said. “They outplayed us in every phase of thegame. They were the better team and we didn’t play as well as we are ableto play. They put the play and we didn’t and they deserved to win.”
