BATON ROUGE – Donreil Louis, who helped lead West St. John to the District 9-2A title and a berth in the state playoffs this season, was recently named to the Class 2A All-State boys basketball second team by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Louis, L’Observateur’s All-River Parishes most valuable player, led the Rams with a 22.3 points per game average. The 6-2 sophomore forward also grabbed 9.8 rebounds a game in being named to the All-District 9-2A first team.

Louis had a team-high 14 points in the Rams’ 50-43 victory against Newman in the bi-district playoffs. West St. John advanced to the regionals where it was eliminated by McCall.

Loyola’s Nick Sinville was named the player of the year in Class 2A after averaging 19.6 points per game. Sinville was joined on the first team by University’s Collis Temple III, Christian Life’s Donald Mosby, Oakdale’s Clifton Jones and Coushatta’s Draper Housley.

Joining Louis on the second team were Fisher’s Damien Adams, St. Bernard’s Felton Lewis and Jonathan Peters and Jason Kosik, both from St. Frederick.

Patterson’s Berwick Hamilton was named the boys’ basketball coach of the year after leading the Lumberjacks to the Class 2A state championship.

The girls’ all-state team was also announced with state champion Ridgewood placing Lauren Romano and Mindy Livaudais on the first team.

Also selected to the first team were University’s Ferris Peters, Christian Life’s Sarah Goree and Rapides’ Kathym Vandersteen. Goree was named the player of the year in Class 2A.

Iota’s Danny Miller was selected as the Class 2A girls’ basketball coach of the year.
