RESERVE – Tanya Teague pitched seven solid innings and Riverside broke open a one-run game with five runs in the sixth for a 7-1 non-district victory against Dominican Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Rebels improved to 14-6 on the season, while Dominican fell to 12-7.

Teague went the distance in picking up her 13th victory in 18 decisions, allowing one hit while striking out 14 and walking one. Dominican’sVictoria Burke also went the distance in losing her first game of the season after starting with five victories.

Marci Remondet got things started for the Lady Rebels in the bottom of the first, reaching second on a throwing error by Burke and going to third on a ground out by Bridget Lambert. Melissa Martin followed with a grounder tosecond with Remondet beating Ashley Martin’s throw to the plate.

The Lady Rebels added a run in the bottom of the third as Martin lined a two-out single off the right field wall. After Martin stole second, KatieBrady followed with a slow grounder over the second base bag. AshleyMartin got to the ball, but Martin beat her throw home, giving the Lady Rebels a 2-0 lead.

Dominican cut the deficit in the half as Teague, who had retired the first nine hitters of the game, striking out seven, walked Jessica Vallelungo to open the fourth. Rachel Smith followed with Dominican’s only hit of thegame, a slow grounder back to the mound.

Teague struck out Caroline Burke and Lauren Bostic, but Laura Savarese and Victoria Burke reached on errors by Courtney St. Amant, allowingVallelungo to come in to score.

Riverside’s bats finally came alive in the bottom of the sixth. Lambertopened the inning with a grounder back to Burke, who overthrew first base, allowing Lambert to go to second.

Martin followed with a double to left field, scoring Lambert with the Lady Rebels’ third run. Martin then came in to score as Brady singled into theright-center field gap.

One out later, St. Amant and Amy Graugnard singled to load the bases.Ashley Bourgeois followed with a grounder to third with courtesy runner Jennifer Guidry beating Heather Schultz’s throw home.

St. Amant scored to make it 6-1 as Amy Trepagnier singled through adrawn-in infield. Remondet added the final run, popping a single into shortright field to score Graugnard.

“We finally started hitting the ball,” Riverside coach Matt White said. “Wewere hitting it right at them the first couple of innings, but it finally start coming our way in the sixth.”Riverside hosts District 9-2A rival Ridgewood today at 4 p.m.
