The River Region Arts and Humanities Council was established in October 1996 after nearly a year of steering committee meetings to write by- laws. The council’s founders are Roberta Rainwater and Mary Raymond, both artists and writers who felt the River Region needed a strong advocate organization for the arts and humanities. The council’s purposeis to help, in any way, artists and organizations from all creative disciplines.

The council has established an annual art show and a quarterly arts calendar of events/newsletter called “Segue” and plans to publish a resource directory of organizations and individuals from all creative disciplines in the River Region, which it defines as St. Charles, St. John,St. James and Ascension parishes. Current copies of “Segue” are availableat the parish libraries in the River Region.

A strong membership campaign is also being worked on by the board, as are ideas for literary and performance events.
