EDGARD – West St. John’s Adair Alexander helped lead the Rams to asecond place finish in the West St. John Meet Friday afternoon, receivingoutstanding field performer honors after winning the triple jump.

The Rams finished with 114 points overall. John Curtis, led by outstandingtrack performer Jason Engen who had victories in the 1600- and 3200- meters, won the boys’ competition with 184 points. Boothville-Venicewas a distant third with 62 points, followed by Fisher (48), Port Sulphur (38) and St. James (35).St. James, led by first-place finishes by Brandy Celestine in the triplejump and 800-meters, placed second in the girls’ competition with 100 points. Port Sulphur edged out the Lady Wildcats for the meet title with106 points. West St. John, with first-place finishes by Niesha Green in thelong jump and Crystal Stipe in the 400-meters, was third with 75 points.

Ridgewood and Fisher were fourth and fifth with 70 and 54 points, respectively.

Alexander placed first in the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet, 2 1/4 inches. Teammate Dehaven Duronslet placed third in the triple jump with aleap of 19-6, while Keith Lumar was second in the pole vault with a vault of eight feet. St. James’ Brian Landry placed third in the high jump with ajump of 5-6.

In the throwing events, Jason Lewis had a career best throw of 121-9 to place second in the discus. Chad Grows had a toss of 137-4 to placesecond in the javelin.

In the closest of the track events, West St. John’s Orlando Comminie edgedout St. James’ Brian Landry at the finish, 15.56-15.57, to win the 110-meter hurdles. Tremaine Nathan placed third in the 400-meter run with atime of 53.04, while Duronslet added a second place finish in the 200-meters with a time of 24.38. St. James’ Ricky Burdes was third with atime of 24.74.In the relays, West St. John placed second in the 800- and 1600-metersand third in the 400-meters.

In the girls’ competition, Celestine overcame a cold to jump 34-6 on her second jump to win the triple jump.

That jump bettered her career-best effort by more than three feet.

Celestine would later run the 800-meters in 2:42.81 to win that eventwith teammate Lisa Taylor in third.

Green set a personal best with a jump of 14-11 1/2 to win the long jump.

She would later add a third-place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 32-1/2. Teammate Kenyatta Boudoin placed second in the shot put with athrow of 36-1/2.

In the running events, Stipe took first in the 400-meters with a time of 1:03.62. In second was St. James’ Tondra Young with a time of 1:06.65.West St. John’s Felicia Gross added a second-place in the 100-meter dash.For the Lady Wildcats, Lawanda Harry placed second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.21. Arielle Adams, running the 3200-meters forthe first time, placed second with a time of 15:54.52, and came back toplace third in the 1600-meters with a time of 7:08.62. Fisher’s ShellyNavarre placed first in each event and was named the meet’s outstanding track performer.

St. James won the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 4:41 and added thirdplace finishes in the 800- and 400-meter relays. West St. John placedsecond in both the 800- and 400-meters, edged out by Ridgewood and Port Sulphur, respectively.
