LULING – The River Region Drama Guild is announcing auditions for its summer production “Anything Goes.””Anything Goes” is a lighthearted musical by Cole Porter that takes place in the 1930s aboard the S.S. American. Originally, the musical was to be abouta shipwreck and its effects on some colorful characters, but just before rehearsal began in 1935 a real tragedy at sea took place. Obviously, thescript had to be altered and the setting became a luxury liner plying between New York and London. The play consists of many colorful and funnycharacters, including a public enemy and a night club singer turned evangelist.

“With the latest craze about the ‘Titanic,’ this is a perfect musical to be performed in the River Parishes,” said Henry Sorbet, board member of the Drama Guild. `’We may not have the effects that the movie ‘Titanic’ has, butwe do guarantee to bring love and laughter to the audiences. We are alsothrilled to have veteran director Kris Shaw come and direct for the show.

Shaw has directed through out the New Orleans area.””We are looking for 10-20 children and adults to play the guests on the boat, and there is an additional 24 speaking parts.” added Shaw. “The leadcharacters are Hope, Billy and Bonnie, who need to look between 20 and 30 years old. Mrs. Harcourt, Moonface Martin and the Captain should look middleaged, Sr. Evelyn Oakleigh, late 30s to early 40s, the Angels (Reno’s back upsingers) early 20s and Reno should look between 20 and 30 years old.”All auditioners should prepare a song to sing. It does not have to be from”Anything Goes,” but if it is not please bring your own sheet music.

Auditioners will be taught a movement/dance routine and some tap steps.

Tap shoes are encouraged, but not necessary. Readings will be cold from thescript.

Auditions will be held at the Destrehan Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. on March 30,31 and April 1. Performances will be the weekends of June 12, 13 and 14,and June 19, 20 and 21 at Destrehan Auditorium. Rehearsals will start inApril and will be held at the Drama Guild’s rehearsal hall in Luling.
