LAPLACE – Tanya Teague pitched a one-hitter and Riverside took advantage of three St. Charles Catholic errors to move into first place in District 9-2A with a 3-0 victory Thursday afternoon.

Riverside improved to 8-7 overall and 3-0 in District 9-2A, while St.

Charles Catholic fell to 7-3 and 2-1.

Teague struck out seven and walked one in improving her record to 7-5 on the season. She did not allow a runner to get into scoring position andretired the final 11 batters of the game.

St. Charles Catholic starter Marci Martin (5-3) matched Teague in thepitcher’s duel, allowing five hits while striking out seven and walking none. But three Lady Comets errors were turned into three runs by the LadyRebels.

After Martin retired the first six batters of the game, Courtney St. Amantstepped up and lined a shot off the mound. Shortstop Shannon Dolivefielded the ball but threw past first base, allowing St. Amant to go tosecond. Ashley Bourgeois followed by beating out a bunt to third, puttingrunners at first and second with nobody out.

After Amy Trepagnier forced St. Amant at third, Marci Remondet buntedback to Martin and was thrown out at first. First baseman KristinOberschmidt threw home to keep the runner at third, but Bourgeois came in to score when catcher Kori Guillory fired to second to get Remondet.

Remondet, who beat the tag at second, advanced to third on the return throw home but Martin was able to get out of the inning by striking out Bridget Lambert.

The Lady Rebels added a run in the top of the fourth as Melissa Martin reached on an error by Alisha Reine. After Katy Brady sacrificed Martin tothird, Mandy Roussel brought her in with a single to center.

Riverside made it 3-0 in the top of the fifth as Remondet bunted in front of the plate. The ball stuck in the mud, allowing Remondet to beatGuillory’s throw to first. Remondet then stole second and after Lamberthit a foul pop to Oberschmidt, advanced to third on a wild pitch. Martinfollowed with a fly down the left field line. Left fielder Casey Faust got aglove on the ball but could not hold on as Remondet crossed the plate.

Teague kept the Lady Comets in check throughout the game. Faust lined asingle up the middle with one out in the second for St. Charles Catholic’sonly hit, but was left stranded.

Teague issued a lead-off walk to Martin in the fourth, but Brady caught Faust’s bunt attempt and doubled courtesy runner Jenny Traina off first.

“When she hits her spots, she is going to get up on the hitters and make them hit her pitch,” Riverside coach Matt White said of Teague. “She wason today and the whole team played well.”St. Charles Catholic coach Teri Hruska said it all came down to the teamthat made the plays.

“We are very inexperienced and it showed today,” Hruska said. “Riversidewas the better team. They put the bat on the ball and challenged us tomake the plays and too many times we didn’t.

“I expected it to be a close game and I thought the team that made the fewer errors would win. We couldn’t put the bat on the ball and make themhave to make the plays. They just outplayed us in every phase of thegame.”The game was the second of three contests between the teams this season. St. Charles Catholic defeated the Lady Rebels in the St. Johntournament earlier this season and the two teams are scheduled to meet again April 6 at Riverside.

“They will bounce back,” White said of the Lady Comets. “They are a well-coached team and they are going to be there. We are happy with the big winbut we can’t afford to lie down.”
