PICARD PITCHES HAHNVILLE PAST LADY TARPONS

LULING – Jamie Picard tossed a two-hitter and struck out nine as Hahnville remained in first place in District 6-5A with a 10-0 victory over South Lafourche Saturday morning at West Bank Park.

The Lady Tigers improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in district with the victory. Picard pitched the complete game in improving to 3-1 on theseason.

Erin Crisham got things started for the Lady Tigers, leading off the bottom of the first with a walk and a steal of second against Lady Tarpon starter Jill Chabert. Kyna Boyer followed with a grounder to third that Alisse Grosbobbled, putting runners on first and second with nobody out.

Tiffany Cologne then laid down a bunt in front of the plate. Catcher SandyGuidry fielded the ball but her throw sailed past first base, allowing Crisham and Boyer to score and sending Cologne to third.

One out later, Picard walked and courtesy runner Tricia McCully stole second. Kellie Landeche, running for Cologne, came in to score on thethrow to second with McCully going to third as shortstop Healey Matherne’s throw to the plate went past Guidry. Marcia Stewart made it 4-0 by lining a single to center.

Crisham made a sliding catch in foul territory for the final out in the top of the third. Picard cruised after the play, retiring the final 10 batters ofthe game.

The Lady Trojans came up with stellar defensive play of their own after Hahnville loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the inning.

Angie Roussel took a full count pitch from Chabert and drove it into deep left field.

Left fielder Nicole Barrilleaux, playing Roussel deep, raced back to track the ball down near the wall, keeping the Hahnville lead at four.

Hahnville broke through for two runs in the bottom of the fifth as Stewart and Tyna Wells singled with one out. One out later, Lindsey Parker broughtboth runners home with a single to center, giving the Lady Tigers a 6-0 lead.

Hahnville broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth. Cologne walkedand Roussel singled to left to open the inning.

After Picard hit into a force out, Stewart walked to load the bases. Wellsfollowed with another walk, driving in Roussel with the Lady Tigers’ seventh run of the game.

With two outs, the Lady Tarpons appeared to be out of the inning as Fallon Cancienne grounded to short, but Wells was able to beat the force at second as McCully scored. Crisham then delivered a two-strike single upthe middle, driving in Stewart and Wells and giving the Lady Tigers the victory courtesy of the 10-run rule.

“We have been hitting the ball well so far this year,” Hahnville coach E.J.Tassin said. “The nine batters have been picking up each other.”Crisham led the way for the Lady Tigers with two hits, two stolen bases and two runs batted in. Roussel, Stewart and Parker also had two hits.Beth Aucoin was the offensive attack for the Lady Tarpons, getting both of her team’s hits with singles in the first and third innings.
