HAHNVILLE – A group of burglars invading a St. Rose home Monday evening got more than they bargained for when the homeowner fought back and wrestled a gun away from one of them, according to St. Charles Parish authorities.

One of the suspects, John Jackson of Fourth Street in St. Rose, 19, was arrested after being treated for injuries sustained in the struggle with the homeowner, said Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, spokesman for the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office.

Another suspect, Kenneth Nelson of Mockingbird Lane in St. Rose, 19, who was also injured, has an arrest warrant waiting for him once he leaves the intensive care unit at LSU Interim Hospital in New Orleans. LaGrange said two more suspects remain at large as of Friday.

According to a Sheriff’s Office report, Jackson, Nelson and two other unidentified men allegedly forced their way into a home on Fourth Street Monday around 11:25 p.m. looking for money. The men came in contact with the homeowner, who managed to wrestle a gun away from one of the suspects, LaGrange said. The homeowner then fired shots at the intruders, striking Jackson and Nelson. All four men then fled the scene.

Shortly after the shooting, deputies located Jackson and Nelson in a vehicle near Jackson’s home with family members tending to their injuries. Jackson received a gunshot wound to his arm, but Nelson’s wounds were more serious. LaGrange said Nelson remains in ICU recovering from surgery.

After leaving the hospital, Jackson was charged with aggravated burglary and armed robbery. LaGrange said investigators are still tracking down leads in the case and more arrests are expected in the coming days. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s detectives at 985-783-1135.

" brave homeowner deserves a reward and shooting practice; so that next time they go to the morgue and not the hospital or jail.
the only way to solve the crime problem is to eliminate the criminals.
please try to invade my house, please.
I'm sure their mothers will say they are good boys and nrver got into trouble. "

ghetto thugs getting what they deserve;
MORE, PLEASE
now they should be locked away until they lose the urge to commit any more crimes. "

" if they want to act macho, they can join the us armed forces and fight for our country.
although, their opponents may fight back and kick their can the way the courageous homeowner victim did. "

" we are so happy to see these thugs got a nasty surprise; instead of helpless victims these cowards were looking for, they met up with someone who stood up to them and whipped their azzes.
if they refuse to earn their own; and continue to steal from others, eradicate them like the vermin they are.
we need more exterminators in the justice system. "

" progressively worse behavior has led to lethal results again.
permissiveness and excuses always leads to tragic results.
some end in long prison sentences and others end in burials.
the burden is on society to discipline bad behavior early or witness the tragedies later. "

where does it come from wrote on Jan 27, 2012 12:31 AM:

" it starts with parenting or the lack there-of.
it continues in schools where incompetent or unconcerned teachers ignore or are incapable of proper direction.
the trend continues through the courts who keep releasing repeat offenders who escalate their criminal activities until they kill or are killed. "

" I applaude the homeowner. He did what was necessary to protect himself, his family and his home! Now to get them behind bars and keep them there.

As for blaming the parents of these thugs, you can only do so much with these kids...and 19 is just a kid, looks like prison will teach them the lesson of a lifetime. "
