LULING — The United Way of St. Charles Campaign and Marketing Committee set the 2010-2011 Campaign goal of $2.4 million at its July meeting.

United Way of St. Charles holds a fundraising campaign each year to develop resources that support local programs and agencies providing direct services in St. Charles Parish.

“It is unfortunate that when the economy is not in a good place the needs go up but fundraising goes down. We decided to set an aggressive goal of $2.4 million dollars because there is a strong need for diverse services in our community,” stated Taryn Miller, UWSC Campaign and Marketing Committee chair. “We are asking our existing donors to consider increasing their current pledge by $1 more per week. If all donors increased their pledge, we could expand some vital services to help address the needs of St. Charles Parish and create lasting changes in our community.”

The annual campaign is held October through December. The campaign kicks off with the 2010 Battle for the Paddle Gumbo & Jambalaya Cook-off on Oct. 7 from 4-7:30 p.m. at the West Bank Bridge Park.

St. Charles Parish businesses assist United Way of St. Charles reach its goal by holding workplace campaigns. Companies holding workplace campaigns were invited to attend the annual Campaign Coordinator Breakfast and Training on Aug. 18 at the Norco Manufacturing Complex (Shell/Motiva).  Employee campaign coordinators were given all the tools and supplies needed to hold a successful workplace campaign at their company.

Last year, United Way of St. Charles reached and exceeded its campaign goal by raising $2.2 million. This allowed the agency to provide over $2 million in support to 30 partner agencies and programs throughout the parish.
