St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the shooting of a 27-year-old LaPlace man.

Authorities received a call at 8:55 Monday night from the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office, which had been notified by emergency room personnel at St. James Hospital that a gunshot victim was there.

According to a St. John Sheriff’s Office release, a friend who drove the shooting victim to the hospital told authorities the shooting occurred on Marigold Street in Mt. Airy.

The victim’s friend told St. John deputies he, the shooting victim, and a few others were standing in the 100 block of Marigold Street when a dark colored car drove by the group.

As the car passed, he said, he heard gun shots, and the victim yelled, “I’m hit.”  The friend told deputies he saw the wound to the victim’s torso, put the victim in his truck and drove him to the hospital.

Deputies were unable to speak to the victim, who was transferred to a hospital in New Orleans for treatment and is currently listed in critical condition.

Detectives have no motive or suspects at this time.  Anyone with information regarding this incident should call St. John Detective Scott Guillory at 985-359-8769 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
