Authorities received a call at 8:55 Monday night from the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office, which had been notified by emergency room personnel at St. James Hospital that a gunshot victim was there.
According to a St. John Sheriff’s Office release, a friend who drove the shooting victim to the hospital told authorities the shooting occurred on Marigold Street in Mt. Airy.

As the car passed, he said, he heard gun shots, and the victim yelled, “I’m hit.” The friend told deputies he saw the wound to the victim’s torso, put the victim in his truck and drove him to the hospital.
Deputies were unable to speak to the victim, who was transferred to a hospital in New Orleans for treatment and is currently listed in critical condition.
