Riverside Academy brought home the trophies
Riverside Academy was well represented at 4-H Achievement day. They placed first in T-shirt design, scrapbook, song, yell and outstanding meetings. They also placed second in the penny drive. Riverside was awarded trophies for participating in at least five projects and one project with a special theme. Locals artists show off their talent
Louisiana Artist Association held a Member’s exhibit recently, at Mocha Latte Restaurant in Destrehan. The winners were first place under glass, Claire Olivier, first place not under glass, William Crowell, second place under glass, Myrle Van, second place not under glass, Pat Caraccioli, third place under glass, Diane Rucci, third place not under glass, Sandy Hartigan, first honorable mention under glass, Rachel Mayeur, first honorable mention not under glass, Joyce Laporte, second honorable mention under glass, Olga Bannister, and second honorable mention not under glass,Audrey Giardina. The art show will remain hanging at the restaurant until October 3.

John L. Ory Communication and Magnet Elementary School announces its PBS students of the month for September 2009 in kindergarten through eighth-grade.

Local is crowned Miss Pre-Teen Baton Rouge
Macy Badeaux, daughter of Helen Badeaux and the late Timothy Badeaux of Garyville was crowned Miss Pre-Teen Baton Rouge. Upon winning this year’s nationals’ preliminary pageant, she received a trip to Orlando, Fla., to compete in the 2009 Cities of America National Pageant competition. She was also crowned Junior Miss Gonzales at this year’s Jambalaya festival. Macy now resides in Gonzales and attends St. Theresa of Avial School.

A ‘Star’ student at DHS
Taylor Wyble, a junior at Destrehan High School, was chosen over hundreds of students to attend “STAR.”  STAR is a free, educational summer camp sponsored by the Academics Division of Ochsner Health System. It provides qualified high school students with a unique opportunity to learn about the latest advancements in medicine and healthcare from Oschner’s physicians, nurses and administrators.

Hahnville High presents ‘Miss Nelson is Missing’
The Hahnville High School Drama Club will present “Miss Nelson is Missing” by Jeffrey Hatcher, based on the popular children’s book by Harry Allard, starring St. Charles Parish teacher of the year Eugenie Smith as Miss Nelson, the too nice teacher who can’t control her crazy classroom until the evil Miss Swamp arrives.

Walter and Shirley Brown celebrated their 60th anniversary on Aug. 14. They were married Aug. 14, 1949, in Linchburg, Va. They have three children, Pamela Sue Brown, Sherry Rae Thomptson and George.

2009 Miss and Teen Andouille Queen contestants
The 2009 Miss Andouille Queen and Teen Miss Andouille Queen pageant will be at 7 p.m. tonight at the St. John Theatre in Reserve. Tickets are $8 can be purchased today before the Pageant starting at 6:30 p.m.

Keep Louisiana Beautiful announces poster design contest for students
Baton Rouge – Keep Louisiana Beautiful is sponsoring its first poster design contest for students statewide. The contest will kick off on Monday, Sept. 28, with a call for entries. Middle and high school students (grades 7-12) are eligible to enter through Friday, Oct. 16.

Auditions for ‘Toy Camp’
