BUSH – A LaPlace man was charged with one count of vehicular negligent homicide and two counts of vehicular negligent injury following a two-vehicle crash in St. Tammany Parish that claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl, said authorities with State Police.
Teresa Mohon, a resident of Angie, was air lifted to University Hospital in New Orleans for treatment of severe injuries from the Sept. 3 accident on Louisiana 21 near Bush, said State Police Troop L spokesman Louis Calato.

According to a release from State Police, Mohon was riding in the passenger seat of a 2008 Nissan Altima when it was hit head-on by a Chevrolet pickup driven by Troy Vollentine, 40, of LaPlace. The release states that the two other occupants of the Nissan, a 16-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy, were taken to St. Tammany Parish Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.
Calato said Vollentine was traveling north on Louisiana Highway 21 near Louisiana Highway 40 when his truck crossed the center lane of the road and crashed into the Nissan, which was heading south. Both vehicles were spun around before coming to rest on opposite sides of the highway.
Vollentine, who was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the accident, was booked with DWI, driving left of center, driving under suspension and resisting, interference or obstruction of an officer. Calato said investigators also believe drug impairment was a factor in the crash.
Calato said a sample of Vollentine’s blood was taken for analysis.
Vollentine was booked into the St. Tammany Parish jail after receiving medical treatment for minor injuries suffered in the crash.
Authorities do not believe the driver of the Nissan was impaired, but a sample of blood was taken for analysis. Calato said the driver of the Nissan was the only occupant in the vehicle wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
