It’s not citizens who are out of touch

If you listen to Democratic leaders such as Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid and Howard Dean, you are told that the millions of Americans we see and read about who are protesting the proposed healthcare plan are “out of touch with reality” and “unpatriotic.”

If you watch the network newscasts, you see the faces of only the lost vocal ” or is that least photogenic? ” as Obama administration apologists such as Katie Couric tell us how badly those who are upset are behaving.

While first pointing out that yes, changes need to be made in our healthcare system, we would quickly add that millions of Americans have given their lives so that those the Democrats characterize as “out of touch” or “unpatriotic” would have the right to voice opposition.

The reason many in our nation ” the majority now, by even those classified as pro-Democratic pollsters ” have resorted to shouting is that Congress has refused to listen to conversation-level debate.

Because of tumbling poll numbers, Mr. Obama has offered a co-op plan ” but the Washington Post points out that many of the so-called co-op proposals are the same as those in the government-run proposal. Little, if any, change.

And across the board, we’ve ignored tort reform completely. Could it be because the trial lawyers comprise the single largest source of donations for the Democratic party?

Tort reform, coupled with reduced costs for malpractice insurance and an elimination of advertising for drugs pulls billions of dollars out of the cost factor.

And the administration ignores it.

Another factor ignored is the number of illegal aliens that are part of the nation’s uninsured. While no one should be denied emergency health care, our nation’s illegals ” along with those citizens who feel they are invincible ” clog our emergency rooms, tie up our delivery system and add to the increased costs.

Instead of playing the “woe is me, my constituents are yelling” card, perhaps more in Congress like Arlen Spector, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid should close their mouths and open their ears.

It’s enough to make us repeat Howard Dean’s line ... “Aaaarghhhh!”

" Those who object to universal health care ARE out of touch. They believe all the mess about death panels, illegal aliens and coverage for abortion put out by Republicans too lazy to complete the job they were elected for (Sarah Palin) and chronic adulterers (Newt Gingrich, David Vitter) and their propaganda machines, Louisiana Family Forum, Concerned Women for America, Focus on the Family, Coral Ridge Ministries and similar groups that call themselves "Christian" but don't follow the walk of Jesus.

You don't have to look at the national news to see who is protesting against healing the sick. I saw it close up and in person on Florida Street in Baton Rouge. Middle class, middle aged white folks are the protestors!!!! They look like a demonstration against desegregation 40 years later and I suspect many are the same people or their children.

The issue of health care is really a protest against America's first openly black President. A health care policy with a $5000 deductible is as bad as none at all. Only the wealthy can afford deductibles. So what if it covers catastrophic illness. Most don't get those. What people need is coverage for doctor's visits and prescriptions so they won't get a catastrophic illness.

And as for Louisiana people being against health care, well if the poll only interviewed 600 people it is not a representative sample. 6000 from all parts of the state, including the parishes that voted for Obama, the most populous ones, would be. You can make a poll say whatever you want it to and I think there are many more people who support our first decent President since Jimmy Carter (Clinton was hamstrung by that blasted adulterer and a Republican congress), the first real Christian and the first who stands for family values than the crooked pollster will tell.

And if you don't want to listen to Katy Couric, don't. But I have seen her report all sides fairly. Better Katy than Rush. Better Pelosi than Newt. "

" Tort reform is nothing other than blaming the victim for the high costs of health care. This comes from that useles Republican, David Vitter. If the doctor cuts off the wrong leg, misdiagnoses meningitis as "a cold" (as happened to a student of mine who became profoundly disabled as a result) because he does not want to do a spinal tap, or misses a cancer for so long it becomes fatal despite persistent complaints from the patient, he should be sued.

The issue of coverage of undocumented workers is also pure selfishness. Our President has said that they would not be covered. The story of the Good Samaritan is a powerful affirmation of universal heath care, including for people from other countries.

Universal health care is scriptural. God said, "Heal the sick". Jesus commanded his disciples to do so. There are numerous examples in both the Old and New Testaments of healing without discrimination. Those who oppose it are Sodomites (Ez 16:49-50). "
