LAPLACE – Authorities in St. John arrested a LaPlace man on charges that he sexually assaulted a 3-year-old boy on June 24, said a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.

Carlos Farinas, 21, 223 Joe Parquet Circle, was taken in for questioning by deputies after the boy was brought to River Parishes Hospital in LaPlace, said Lt. Andy Breaux, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office. Breaux said Farinas eventually confessed that he assaulted the boy earlier that day.

According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, the boy was taken to the hospital around 5 p.m. on June 24 after his mother noticed he was experiencing stomach problems. An X-ray revealed that the juvenile had an unknown object in his stomach. The boy was transferred to Children’s Hospital in New Orleans to have the object removed. His condition is not known at this time.

Breaux said Farinas, who is described as an acquaintance of the boy’s mother, was booked on charges of aggravated crimes against nature, aggravated sexual battery and sexual battery. He is being held at the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility in LaPlace in lieu of $88,000 bond.
