LAPLACE – Authorities in St. John apprehended a LaPlace man Thursday who was wanted in connection with a shooting near the football practice field at St. Charles Catholic High School.

Alex “Ticky” Bruer, 27, 2552 Virginian Colony Dr., was taken into custody at his home by a Fugitive Apprehension Unit from the Attorney General’s Office, said Dane Clement, public information officer for the St. John Sheriff’s Office. Clement said deputies had been searching for Bruer since the Aug. 23 shooting that injured a 28-year-old man.

According to a report from police, the victim in the shooting was able to identify Bruer in a photographic lineup following the incident, and a warrant was issued Aug. 26.

Clement said St. John detectives were unable to locate Bruer after months of searching. Believing that he had fled the state, Clement said authorities enlisted the help of the fugitive unit, who located Bruer and arrested him. Bruer was booked on charges of attempted first-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, carrying a firearm within a firearm-free zone and contempt of court. He is being held in the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility in LaPlace in lieu of an $850,150 bond.

According to a report on the shooting, five or six shots were fired from an older model gray Chevrolet Malibu near Dominican Drive and Michael Court in LaPlace on the morning of Aug. 23. A Garyville man was hit in the upper left side and left arm. He was taken to River Parishes Hospital and later released.
