MONTZ – A LaPlace man suffered fatal injuries Tuesday night after he was thrown from an SUV during a single-vehicle crash in St. Charles Parish, said authorities with state police.

Senior Trooper Joseph Piglia, a spokesman for state police, said a second passenger was also injured in the accident, which occurred around 8 p.m. along Airline Highway near CC Road in Montz.

Stephen Fraisse, 52, was driving northbound in the left lane on Airline Highway in a 2000 Chevrolet Tracker when, according to a report from police, the vehicle drifted off the roadway onto the shoulder.

Piglia said Fraisse overcorrected and swerved back toward the right onto the right shoulder of the road. He said the Tracker spun counterclockwise and rolled over, Fraisse was then thrown from the vehicle. Piglia said Fraisse was not wearing a seatbelt.

The report said Fraisse was pronounced dead on the scene. The second passenger in the vehicle, 54-year-old Janice Fraisse, Stephen Fraisse’s wife, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to River Parishes Hospital.

Piglia said speed was a factor in the crash and driver impairment is also suspected. He said a toxicology report is pending. The accident is still under investigation by Trooper L. Journee.
