BATON ROUGE – Governor Bobby Jindal announced the appointment of Harry Morel Jr. of Luling to the Louisiana Drug Control and Violent Crime Policy Board.

Morel is the district attorney in St. Charles Parish. Morel will serve as a district attorney from the eastern area of Louisiana, as required by executive order.

 The Louisiana Drug Control and Violent Crime Policy Board serves to develop a statewide drug control and violent crime strategy and advise the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Criminal Justice.  

According to executive order BJ 08-46, the board is comprised of eighteen members, including the superintendent of the Department of Public Safety, the executive director of the Louisiana District Attorneys Association, the executive director of the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association, or their designees. The remaining fifteen members are the following gubernatorial appointees:

 

∑        Three district attorneys, one each from the eastern, western and middle areas of Louisiana;

∑        Three sheriffs, one each from the eastern, western, and middle areas of Louisiana;

∑        Three chiefs of police, one each from the eastern, western, and middle areas of Louisiana;

∑        One marshal or constable selected from the eastern, western or middle areas of Louisiana; and

∑        Five at-large members who are active private citizens in community drug control and prevention and may be former members of the stat judiciary.
