LAPLACE – An Ascension Parish man armed with a gun was taken into custody Saturday after he opened fire inside a LaPlace bar injuring two people, said a spokesman for the St. John Sheriff’s Office.

Capt. Dane Clement, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office, said Anthony Moon, 35, 5191 Hemingway Drive, Darrow, was booked with two counts of attempted second-degree murder following a shooting at New Orleans Original Daiquiris on Airline Highway. Moon remains in custody at the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility on $405,000 bond.

According to a report on the incident, Moon and 33-year-old Curtis Mazique of Reserve got into an argument inside the shop sometime around 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Witnesses said Moon produced a small semi-automatic weapon and fired several shots, striking Mazique and another man inside the bar, 31-year-old Anthony Duhon of Garyville.

Clement said Mazique was rushed to River Parishes Hospital with severe injuries and was later airlifted to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge for further treatment. Mazique remained hospitalized Monday.

Duhon, who was playing video poker at the time of the shooting, was treated and released from River Parishes Hospital after being shot in the leg, the report said.

Investigators could not disclose the nature of the argument and would not reveal any more information other than that Moon and Mazique were strangers.

Clement said Moon tried to exit the daiquiri shop after the shooting, but was stopped and detained by security personnel until deputies arrived. Moon was also charged with possession of a firearm on the premises of an alcoholic beverage outlet.
