Riverside captured its second win of the season Monday afternoon as it defeated De La Salle at the Rumble on the River tournament, 40-31 at the Alario Center.

The Rebels fell twice in pool play (55-19 to Cabrini, 43-14 to Riverdale), and therefore were slotted in the third place bracket. The win over De La Salle moved Riverside into the finals of that bracket in a game that was scheduled to be played on Monday night.

Lauren Doyle scored 22 to lead the Rebels (2-14), who found their shooting touch after a slow start in the first quarter – De La Salle led 2-1 after the opening period.

“It was a defensive game,” said Riverside Coach Kristy Hebert. “We just finally had a good game shooting the ball. Shots that we missed all season started falling.”

Riverside led 10-8 at halftime. But in the second half, the Rebels came alive, outscoring the Cavaliers 30-23 to secure the final margin of victory.

Doyle, the Rebels’ leading perimeter shooter, had her best game of the season scoring-wise in the win.

“We just encourage her to keep shooting. Sooner or later, those shots are going to start falling, and today they did,” Hebert said.

Megan Malik scored 10 for Riverside. Jill Blanchard added four.

Malik led Riverside with seven points against Cabrini. Doyle scored seven to lead the Rebels against Riverdale.
